A way to get around a dead DC battery without soldering?

Post by Mad_Hatter »

My Dreamcast battery is completely dead and will not recharge. I tried to leave it on over night, but it still did not hold its charge.

The only issue is having to input the date all the time, which gets annoying.

Is there anyway I can get around the hassle of inputting the date and time each boot up without soldering on a new battery?

1) Is there a way where the Dreamcast can just load the date and time from the VMU automatically during the boot up so i don't have to input it everytime?

2) If I can't do 1, and have to replace the battery, could i just use some electrical tape without soldering? I have done this with game boy games, but not sure if this will work on a Dreamcast since it uses a rechargeable battery.

As far as I know, the dead battery is just not able to hold the time and date. Not a big deal, but it gets annoying having to input the date all the time.

No, you need to solder something. Doing a crappy job of hacking the dead one out and jury rigging something with electrical tape is not a good solution. VMUs eat batteries like potato chips and use 2, so even if you could have it sync, you'd be replacing VMU batteries every month.

You should just remove the old battery and solder a 2032 Vertical Coin Socket. Then you can use a LIR2032 and snap on a new one when that ones dies.
