I need some suggestions on what to carve, i have never carved a pumpkin in my life. So this should be interesting? Anything video game related

Since you have the Mario costume, i suggest a koopa or goomba pumpkin carving. Google images, blow it up and print it to the right size. Lay paper over the pumpking and poke dotted line holes to the pumpkin with a knife. Then connect the dots with a little saw blade. keep in mind the negative space so the internal parts of the picture won't fall out.

I've seen quite a few impressive video game related pumpkins lately on the various forums. I was fairly impressed with a set of Mario/Princess Peach Pumpkins.

Being as you're a pumpkin carving novice you might want to stick to something simpler. Maybe just a mushroom?

I still think it would fit the theme.

You need to remember that you are taking away pieces of the pumpkin. Thus, for example, if you carve out an oval for a face, you need to ensure that you still have a little bit that connects to the edge, so that you can outline eyes.

For example, look at this one (although it also has more advance techniques, such as scraping away the surface without fully carving): http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/imagevie ... nners.html

You can see that the eyes are still connected to the hair, so that they could be properly outlined.

I can't believe everyone's gone for the obvious Goomba choice, and not come up with the ultimately superior Boo.
