Wow, surprised to see so much hate on the game here.
This game is pretty much exactly what a site like this is all about. For a site that lavishes so much praise towards Guardian Heroes to crap all over this game is more than a little strange.
Just got to Infernal. Still loving the game, but I'm about to make a new character soon. I'm thinking I'll go with a Wizard, because I never see them online.

It's a retro game? Oh, no it isn't. This site is "about" retro games.

Guardian Heroes is an arcade style game that can be finished in under an hour. Dragon's Crown takes some of those same basic gameplay elements and tries to stretch it into 20. It's not surprising that people find it repetitive/tedious/repetitious after a certain point, as that isn't what the genre is designed to do.
Dragon's Crown is meant to be far more than 20 hours. Unless you're only doing single player story on normal difficulty. I mentioned Diablo for a reason. To me it is meant to be a side scrolling beat em up/ARPG with lots of loot, runs of the same levels/bosses in hopes of finding better loot, 3 difficulties in which you keep your character, focus on multi, pointless 'story', etc.
It does a lot right. But it's not as great as I was hoping for. Not meeting my lofty expectations doesn't mean it is not a very good game. I like the idea of a Diablo influenced side scroller. If they continue with some of these ideas for their next game, improve local multi with an account system, provide cross play, and hopefully make a worth while single player mode.
I can't speak for whether there is much or any endgame to be had. My guess would be no. Something to consider for a sequel or spiritual successor.
Honestly, I think Vanillaware went too far out it their way to reduce the backtracking and multiple paths compared to Muramasa. It's a hub world and even in the very few dungeons the game has you CANNOT backtrack.
Sure, you might say the lack of backtracking is pretty typical for a beat em up. But I feel like this game is wanting to be something more. There is so much missed opportunity because of how linear the stages are.
So I don't know. Maybe part if my disappointment is from hoping the game would be more than it ended up being. But I still enjoy the game and will continue to play it with friends. I enjoy doing local multi Monster Hunter a lot more, but Dragon's Crown will probably be that weekend game we play together for at least a month or two in addition to MH3U, fighters, and the occasional shmup.
I barely finished it on hard with the amazon, after getting repeatedly raped by the last boss. Infernal difficulty is ridiculous. Fucking GOBLINS are over powered. You know those little shits that are the very first enemy you face in the game. On Infernal, they can cast magic, one hit kill you, turn your entire party into frogs, and the dark skinned ones have the defense of a small tank. My freaking amazon is just ticking away at its life bar. This is freaking ridiculous. This is one of the cheapest, most unbalanced games I've ever played. You'd think for all this bullshit you go through, the loot and XP would be amazing right? Nope, you still gain like one level up after barely surviving a stage, and the loot is the same weak, useless weapons I've been acquiring on normal and hard mode. This game never gives you an inch. It hates you and it hates your family and your dog too.
I went back and played some of the other classes on normal and it's just...boring. Story mode is fun to play through like one time. The classes are not so different that they drastically change the play experience. Bosses are still overpowered, side quests are still boring, the story is still stupid, the voice over stops being charming and gets annoying, etc, etc.
Dragon Crown is an 8 hour game. You play through one time with one class and you've seen everything the game has to offer. The other difficulties are crap because they are so unbalanced, which makes them no fun to play. Plus...you've seen everything Dragon's Crown has to offer after one playthrough. The other difficulties are just more of the same, but cheaper and more annoying. All the reviews saying there is plenty of bang for your buck are full of crap. It's an 8 hour game, stretched to 120 hours if you're down for some extreme repetition and a lot of anal raping by cheap, higher difficulties
Sigh, so disappointed. Charlie Murder isn't all that great either. I beat that one recently and it was meh.
So maybe I'll start playing Dynasty Warriors 8, with both of the above games being a let down.

I've only played about an hour, but sadly, this is sort of my impression. I'll prob give it another hour to be sure. But it's not looking good (even though the game looks good).
