The idea of "AP" classes makes me laugh. They don't mean squat when it comes to applying to colleges, and I knew kids who had a GPA of 2.0 who attended "AP" classes. AP is bullsnot.

At least where I went to school.
So would you say CLEPs are better, or are those a joke too?

Thanks for the recommendation. That is one that I am considering. What pushed it over the top for you?
It was my wife's choice. She liked the financing, the crash ratings, the warranty and service record, etc. They're also consistently rated highly for a smallish sized sedan. They are not especially flashy or interesting, but they are well-made, safe, reasonably priced, and good on gas.

My wife is researching cars today; so, I expect that this will be the determining factor for me too...

You had to "qualify" for them in my high school as well (which just means do well and get teacher approval), and you were able to earn college credit upon doing well in them. You could bypass entire pre-req courses in some cases. On top of that, if you are planning on going to college you will get useful skills out of the classes, and be ahead of the game with math and academic writing ability.

I guess it makes sense that it would vary by school, but now that I'm back in school I am definitely happy I went through AP classes and I would advise others to.

Hondas also maintain their resell value remarkably well. We recently purchased a Honda Odyssey for the family and I've been very impressed with the fit and finish and how well it drives. This seems to be true of the Civic as well, although I don't own one.

Do you need to take AP classes to take AP tests? I can't remember.

I took AP English.

My wife passed a shitload of AP tests in high school and came into college one full semester ahead of the game.

AP classes put me on the advanced path in math. So instead of algerlbra and geometry fresh and soph years I took algebra 2 and precal which then allowed me to take 2 calculus courses my jr and sr years. This really helped out in college. Ap English was basically a college level course which helped my writint skills and ap comp sci gave me a head start in programming.

I have an interesting story on how I got into those courses. In 5th grade you had to get recommended by your teacher to take tests to get on the pre-AP fast track of math courses and such in middle school. I was never a teacher's pet type of student and would get bored with slow or boring content and goof off sometimes. I was unruly by any means but I also didn't endear myself to my 5th grade teacher.

So when it came time to recommend people, she didn't recommend me. My mom stepped in and tried to get me to be able to take the tests but my teacher actually resisted her for a bit. My mom finally won and I got to take the tests. One of her recommendations passed the math but not english and the other failed both while I passed both. My mom was so satisfied and wanted to call the teacher but didn't haha. The teacher did grudgingly congratulate me after the results were in and I was gracious even though I was also tempted to say thanks but no thanks or something along those lines.

Wouldn't know. It all depends on the "school system".

Before moving to NC, I went to a "Math and Science" gifted school. In middle school after I moved to NC I got straight A's in every class, three straight years in a row (I still have my A-Team badge and picture somewhere). Aced the pre-sat my Freshman year, and scored a 1340 on my SAT when I was only a sophomore. But it was a pain in the ass to get into AP classes.

Keep in mind that my Mother was told "AP is not for yankees or niggers" (hand to God/Buddha/etc.), so there is that too. Caldwell County still isn't the home of forward thinking. The only way I got in AP classes was because my Father rubbed elbows with the school council.

Turned out AP didn't mean two wags of a tail when I applied for College.
