Why do people bother to watch "Lets Play" crap on YouTube when you can find plenty of longplays which don't contain irritating commentary and absurdly bad "jokes"?

Anyone know if the Mystery Dungeon Chocobo games are any good? I love roguelikes and Final Fantasy so I'm not really sure why I don't own any of these yet. From what I know there were three titles released in the US (PS1, Wii, DS).

I believe those are the only Final Fantasy games I'm missing from my collection. Well, those and Chocobo Racing.

It's been awhile, but the PS1 game was pretty good for what it was. It is probably a lot funner with a second player though. It should get the job done for a dungeon crawler fan, but probably not too much else.

You have to find the right person. One of the few Let's Plays that I have watched to completion had to be ResearchIndicates' series on Jurassic Park: Trespasser. He not only gives you a huge amount of historical information about the game, but he also shows you all of the hidden easter eggs and unusual glitches. It is really worth watching.

As for Let's Play in general, I don't go for them much. I enjoy Retsupurae, making fun of really bad Let's Plays and I occassionally watch Game Grumps, although not so much now a days. It is a matter of personality, editing and game choice. I do not want to see the millionth Let's Play of Amnesia. What I want to see is a LANed Let's Play of Co-op Elder Scrolls: BattleSpire...gotta get to that sometime. Anyone in Michigan want to try it?

Yeah, there are some great Let's Plays (The JP Trespasser one is the one I always use as an example too).

That said, there are plenty of absolutely terrible ones with terrible unfunny people. I have no clue why some of these people get so many views.

Because some of them are actually good? I've mentioned lets plays/longplays by ZetaPlays numerous times here, if only for the "spin a random NES/SNES/Genesis game" element that puts him ahead of everyone else. If I want no commentary I go with cubex55 and the many people that post longplays on that account.

The whole idea of this "Let's Play" thing just boggles me. I simply do not get it. I don't think I would be entertained by watching some random guy play a game and talk about it, I would much rather just play the game myself. A video review or something is one thing, but anything longer than 10 minutes I have no interest in.

It doesn't help that these guys usually make me want to unplug my computer and burn it after 10 seconds with the incessant "jokes" and irritating voices/comments, but then again I have no sense of humor and am easily irritated.

I watched some guy play Mindcraft for a bit, it was pretty interesting.

Not really sure about anything else, I'd probably just play the game myself since it'd take about the same amount of time. Though I can see the appeal since it could be funny watching someone play a video game (if they're actually funny of course).
