There is a slight difference (read big) between a person deciding to sell a copy of their game when prices go up and a company that had exclusive printing rights not only possibly helping the inflation but possibly sitting on or waiting to redistribute copies in order to take advantage of their customer.
So let's sum this up
-There is no great reprinting conspiracy here
-Gamestop obviously pulled/sat on used and new games when the market began going up
-Gamestop likely offered high trade in to get more used copies knowing they could double their profit (again) very soon on their own exclusive game.
I don't care how you argue this with supply and demand or market this or that. No matter how you slice it, that is some very shady and unethical business practices.
Xenoblade Chronicles out of print?
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles out of print?
what about it is "shady" or "unethical"? No one is getting hurt. No one is required to buy.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles out of print?
Because the company is the sole publisher and distributor of said product and is helping with a now somewhat false price inflation and essentially possibly holding on to the merchandise that could of/should of already been in the hands of the consumer.
I'm no business professor but I'm sure more than one would call that unethical. Just because you're not required to buy something doesn't make the act any less unethical.

Gamestop has no exclusive rights to sell it used. They had exclusive rights selling it new, but those are gone and everyone had a chance to buy it then.
Gamestop looked at market trends and collected their used copies at their warehouse to distribute to their retail outlets. Thise whole time, you could request a copy at your local store and they would be sent a copy. I know of several who would do this and resell on ebay.
They are still selling their game cheaper than online market values and were rebuying the game at abouy the same exact price they sold it new. So is GS not allowed to set their own prices?
If it is overpriced it won't sell and GS will be forced to lower it.

You keep ignoring the fact that most of the copies that were first found in stores were undoubtedly new copies that were just unwrapped and put on shelves used so they could have an higher price. Meaning they pulled/sat on new copies of the game. The rest is irrelevant.

If the current business practice is shady/unethical, how should they sell their stock of games?KDub wrote:I don't care how you argue this with supply and demand or market this or that. No matter how you slice it, that is some very shady and unethical business practices.
Seriously. If you were in charge of sales at Gamestop, how would you order them to sell this title?
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles out of print?
i question how "undoubtedly new" those copies were. why not just sell the new sealed copies for $120 or something if what you claim was true happened?KDub wrote:You keep ignoring the fact that most of the copies that were first found in stores were undoubtedly new copies that were just unwrapped and put on shelves used so they could have an higher price. The difference is GS is getting them new, unwrapping them and marking up the price. Why doesn't GS cause a major deflation by selling them new? In order for the price to go down Nintendo needs to release a digital copy and that's it.ninjainspandex wrote:I find it humorous that people are arguing that Gamestop selling used copies for $90 is shady but not complaining about people on ebay selling them for $100+. It's simple supply and demand, Gamestop realized how much people were paying for them online so they put out ads that they were giving a bonus trade in money for the game. Unsuspecting kids and moms saw the ad in stores and not knowing what they could get for them on ebay simply started trading them in, there is no conspiracy here folks.
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles out of print?
The game I bought in January pictured on the previous page was absolutely pristine. I suspect it was retagged from new to used even back then, I only paid $40.49. Seriously, the initial run games sold fast back then when the prices started spiking online. I had to battle to get the Last CIB Copy locally, I'm still positive the employees were buying them as well.BoneSnapDeez wrote:This.KDub wrote:You keep ignoring the fact that most of the copies that were first found in stores were undoubtedly new copies that were just unwrapped and put on shelves used so they could have an higher price. Gamestop has a policy of retagging new to used overstock and certain game titles they can no longer reorder. This has happened for Wii Samba De Amigo, Octomania and Kirby Epic Yarn to name a few.
