I didn't know how to title this one...
So I bought a Genesis model 1 yesterday and when I started playing it seemed like the up button was stuck. I took the controller apart, re-seated everything, put it back together and the problem was still there. So I took the controller back and exchanged it for a new one and it's still happening. I'll start a game and Sonic will look up and keep looking up until I press something else. Is this a system problem? These controllers seem perfectly fine, inside and out and the pins in the controller port look fine.
Any thoughts?

Have you tried different games?
Like if you were to play Street fighter or mortal kombat, would your fighter keep jumping?

I've tried Sonic 1 and 2, both times he just looks up. I've also tried Ecco and he just swims to the top of the screen and stays there.sp957 wrote:Have you tried different games?

Damn never seen this problem. Maybe the seller you are buying from is giving you defective controllers? Do you have any other controllers to use?

No, I don't sadly. I'm going to bring the whole console back to the store if I can't figure it out. See if they will just replace the whole thing. I know the guys who run it so I'm sure they will help. It just sucks, I've been looking forward to coming home and playing all day.sp957 wrote:Damn never seen this problem. Re: Genesis Problem - Sonic Keeps looking up
Sounds like a problem with the controller, no need to have to replace the entire lot. If it comes to it, maybe get them to just replace the controller.
If you're up to it, you could take the controller apart and clean the contacts with alcohol.

I'll give that a shot. I tried it on the last controller and it didn't work, but who knows. I'll report back if it works.Ziggy587 wrote:Sounds like a problem with the controller, no need to have to replace the entire lot. If it comes to it, maybe get them to just replace the controller.

Re: Genesis Problem - Sonic Keeps looking up
It may not be just the controllers.
Check to see that the pins on the genesis, where the controllers go in aren't bent or damaged.
Also, although somewhat related, there are a few games with some weird compatibility issues. Golden Axe 2 doesn't like the six button controller.
So its a good idea to at least have a three button controller with you

Both of the ones I've tried are Sega brand three buttons and I just looked, all of the pins seem perfectly straight and in good shape.flojocabron wrote:It may not be just the controllers.

Oh, sorry. I read this late last night, I didn't realize in the first post you said you already exchanged the controller for another one and still have the same problem.
I know you said you checked the controller port pins and that they weren't bent. But take a look at them again and see if they look like the might be corroded or real dirty. Put a flash light on them if needed.
