AM Radio Reception - HELP!

Post by SpaceBooger »

Last month my family cut cable (Uverse) and are now using a combination of an over the air antenna, Netflix, Amazon Prime and PlayOn for our TV fix.
The biggest problem with cutting cable is sports. NFL is on local TV so I will be able to watch the Browns via the antenna. The MLB (Indians) and NBA (Cavs) each have their own cable channel so the only way I can enjoy them is via the radio. Currently I only get AM reception on my boombox outside, so for baseball games it has not been a problem - its warm out. I am worried about listening to the Cavs (until I find a way to watch them - since I enjoy the NBA the most).
The NBA (and MLB) both block online streaming of the games via the regular radio station, so anyone have any ideas on how to get either (preferably both) of my home theater receivers get AM reception? I tried the antennas that came with the system and the basement one gets poor reception, and the upstairs one barely gets reception.

Thanks in advance.

wow dude. No basketball? Ouch.

Um... maybe there's some bigger antenna you could put on the exterior of your house that could be wired to one of your systems?

Luke, have you used SopCast? Does it work well, reliable and is it safe?

I've been using it for over a decade and have never had an issue. That in mind I have mlbtv for MLB, and have only used SopCast for NFL, and a handful of NHL games. I can also say that I've tethered my laptop to my tv (crt) and have never been disappointed in the quality of the streaming.

Soccer is always on live somewhere. I'd recommend trying to watch a soccer game before being fully invested with the program.

In short, I love SopCast and it has rarely let me down.

Sweet... I wonder if I can stream this via my PS3 since I have no portable pc to tether.
My pc is within 20ft of my downstairs crt - what is the best way to tether it?

Depends on the inputs on your TV. Most likely your best bet is a graphics card that has Svideo out. and a 25ft Svideo cable.

Worst case scenario, you will have to buy a scan converter:

I was hoping there would be a different answer than that. Oh well. Ill sign up for sopcast and watch on my PC until I can figure out how to easily stream it through my ps3.
Thanks guys.
