Rom hacking
Hi I have been trying to hack my Final fantasy 1-3 rom files for the nes using a hex editor on my mac, (2 and 3 are translated) I have beaten 1 before however I have been wanting to tackle the first 3 just for the story the grinding gets very unbearable in those 3. Does anyone know how I could hack the roms so that grinding wasn't so bad. Such as getting 4X the exp. from battles?

You should just be able to use a cheat code, I believe FF2j and 3j have Game Genie codes. What emulator are you using?

Re: Rom hacking
I don't blame you. FF II seems like it would be an awesome game if you didn't have to actually play it.
Re: Rom hacking
Grinding in FF2J is easy. You get exp based on how much damage you took, so fight easy enemies and attack your own party members.

Re: Rom hacking
thanks for the tips guys, I want to try to stray from game genie codes as much as possible though. I want to still play the games, I just want to be able to gain levels faster, I gave FF3 a good shot but was so overwhelmed with how far back I was set after each dungeon, even if I could just max out all the stats and have a huge amount of hp and mp I would be happy, I have a hex editor I just don't really know how to use it, even with hex faqs made for the specific games.

Re: Rom hacking
Well getting into hex editing is annoyingly difficult. I spent eight months last year on and off working on a title screen hack of Zelda 1.
Re: Rom hacking
I remember setting up an emulator for my friend with a PS2 controller hooked into USB so he could make the grinding on FF2 bearable. I set the shoulder buttons to the emulator's settings for fast forward, rewind, save state, and load state with two of the right-hand buttons set to rapid fire. Using those keys I half-watched him actually beat the game in mostly fast-forward by beating his characters to an inch of their lives repeatedly.
Re: Rom hacking
This only increases your HP. If you want to improve any other stats you have to repeatedly select fight/magic commands or evade attacks, etc.Hatta wrote:Grinding in FF2J is easy. You get exp based on how much damage you took, so fight easy enemies and attack your own party members.
