Re: Jaw Dropping 2d games
I just read the Federator planned to make a film out of this game. Sounds like a great idea.

FREDERATOR!! yes, I haven't seen any in a while...

I'd say that screenshot doesn't do 3 Dirty Dwarves justice, it's really good looking in motion.
I'm gonna have to say that the Guilty Gear series had some amazing graphics in it, really top notch. BlazBlue is looking to be pretty too, though the backgrounds are 3D.

3 Dirty Dwarves is unbelievably under-rated. It's that OTHER awesome, cartoony beat'em up that gets ignored in favor of Guardian Heroes.Ack wrote:I'd say that screenshot doesn't do 3 Dirty Dwarves justice, it's really good looking in motion.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep em coming...
Hmm this is gonna be difficult, because there are so many games that may not look the best, but they have a great style like sonic 3 and metal slug...
i have a feeling my list will be well disputed XD

Could be worse. Could be Fastbilly's take on the Final Fantasies. Heheh.
Maybe you ought to consider doing it solely by console? I realize that's not a big help for the early stuff, but I don't think it's really fair to compare Mega Drive games against Saturn games against PS2 games. There is a certain point where graphical limitations factors in.

Yeh i know, thats why its becoming quite hard to do the list, i think im going to focus more on games which you were like "HOLY SHIT!" when u put them in for the first time. Because u get that reaction no matter what console your on. I got that reaction when i put in odins sphere but i also got that reaction when i put in DKC for the first time XD

I have to agree with Ack, the Guilty Gear series is awesome. The PC version is really good due to the higher resolutions.Ack wrote:I'm gonna have to say that the Guilty Gear series had some amazing graphics in it, really top notch. Really? thats it? I've always loved that game, its amazing, funny, and really really challanging. I played it through again about 5 years ago and I used up several notebook pages solving the puzzles in this game. It's got fantastic music too. Kinda foksy butthole surfers-ish. awesome stuff.HeavyMetalMe wrote:That's the second time I've heard of this Neverhood game, and it looks like a lot of fun....
great suggestions from everyone, especailly pulsar_t! I've really agree with Bootay selection of SaGa Frontier 2. It looks so awesom....i just cant figure out the elemental system.
But keep in mind alot of the newer games are 3d with sprite textures and put in 2d planes. Thats almost cheating. Real 2d games are mostly 16 bit and under, although there are several 2d games for the ps1, dc & saturn. And a few for newer systems like Alien Hominid and Viewtiful Joe. But using flash is more 2d than 3d rendered 2d IMO. And sadly most of the older titles don't have the jaw dropping potenial of Odin Sphere, but none the less here are my favorites!
Castlevania SOTN. The level design and enemies look so amazing in this game. The Beelzebub boss battle is just so great and entertaining. There is soo much good stuff here.
Lords of Thunder. This game just blew me away. The sega CD version is amazing, and the DUO version handles even more colors. Great looking/playing game. If Odin Sphere was a shmup this would be it predecessor. Especailly akin are the elemetal themed levels and the map selection screen.
R-Type III. This one looks amazing and gameplay is fantastic. bosses are so wonderfully styled and really make the little snes work.
Shinobi III. So much greatness here. Love the attention to detail.
Super Metoid. This game just rocks in evey department.
Guwange. Everything about this game is a treat. Even the character select screen is a work of art.
Samurai Showdown 2. to this day I am amazed at how good the sprites look. soo great.
Blazing Star. I've never see a game so colorful be so fast and furious.
