taking a night off helped. Got back into it last night and was fired up, running around Tokyo and killed the demon in the pond. My MC just hit LVL 18.

I'm not sure that section has anything to do with staying neutral, it's more of a indication of where I am in the main story.

Aw, nuts. Who is it that I talk to, to figure out my current alignment? I have a save right before that main point.

Inside every bar there is a "Cynical Man" (I think that's his name). When you talk to him he'll give you a description that tells you if you're currently Law, Neutral, or Chaos. I don't remember the Chaos string, but Law essentially says that you're a good person who helps people, and Neutral is that people can't tell what you are.

Ok I've spoken with him I believe he always says that I'm polite.

That means you're Law at the moment. Now whether that means you're just barely Law or massively Law is unknown; you'll have to see what he says after you make the decisions (assuming you make the Chaos decisions).
