It seems like most couples I've encountered are made up of one cheapskate/saver and one that is more of a free-spender.
Which one are you?
In my marriage, I'm the cheapskate and I routinely harass my wife about what she spends money on.
Over the last 8 years we've been together, she's gotten much better about her spending and I'm getting better about being a nag.
Are You The Cheapskate or the Spender?
Re: Are You The Cheapskate or the Spender?
Is it possible to be both? I'm a cheapskate when it comes to certain things but I spend a lot on games, for instance...way too much on games...
Re: Are You The Cheapskate or the Spender?
I'm the same way, Ack. I spend rediculous amounts on games, and don't spend money on basically everything else. Which ends up balancing out, financially.

My girlfriend blows so much money on clothes. She'll spend like $60 on a shirt. I argue with her all the time about how all I buy is little things (movies, video games, records) but the reality is that though I'm a cheapskate and I buy cheap things, I buy a lot of them.

Yeah, I need to start looking in to new clothes. I typically wear black shirts, but some are getting beat up, faded, ripped, etc. and I need new ones.
I think I know just the shirt, though.

Re: Are You The Cheapskate or the Spender?
yeah with me it depends. I'm cheap on most things most of the time. And when I need to be. Biggest thing is I always try not to overpay for things. I have no problem buying nice/expensive things though. I do live within my means though I'm not a debtor
but not exactly a huge saver either.
Re: Are You The Cheapskate or the Spender?
Depends on the situation. When it comes to gaming I don't mind one bit to pay an extra $30-50 to get a game/system CIB. Everything else I spend as little as possible.
Re: Are You The Cheapskate or the Spender?
I try to keep a balance i would like to spend a lot on new consoles or games but i try to spend money on that only when i have enough extra because when i go buying i spend lots
Re: Are You The Cheapskate or the Spender?
My fiancee is always checking out clearance sales and we both enjoy buying stuff at thrift stores and pawn shops. We both buy lots of crap in the end, but it's almost always super cheap.
There are so many ways to buy things cheap. Books from Goodwill, CDs and DVDs from pawn shops, used games (from all the places you already know), etc. In terms of possessions, we've actually outgrown our apartment. And it didn't require breaking the bank to do it.
So I guess that makes us cheapskate spenders.
