I'm seeing a ton of Gamestops holding "used" copies in the area of ANY zip code I put in. Just about every one within 20 miles of where I live (about 15 stores) have them as well.

We keep extra copies for new releases still minty sealed and give those out first one but sadly there is no way around keeping an opened and then resealed copy on the floor.
Don't the plastic cases come with those magnetic alarm thingies?
How about empty DVD cases with high quality print outs for the covers.
Though still only 1 opened game is not bad, and honestly I wouldn't mind it if it was like that because its a necessity, not an evil corporate policy to convince me to buy used.

They don't come with them, we have to buy the system and the strips/pads and still open and apply them to each game.
Printing the cases would be a decent solution though I'm not sure on cost and all of that, that would be a decision for the higher ups obviously. I do know I wouldn't want to deal with people who constantly have to ask which one is new or used or why one is priced higher than the other. They ask that enough as it is and the new copies are resealed with a big sticker on them that say "NEW ITEM: NO DISC INSIDE".

I still don't see these as reprints. GS has in the past been known to clear out their NEW stock of certain games and call them USED so they can price as they wish (which they can really only do w/ used stock). An example in the completely opposite extreme is Samba De Amigo on Wii. Go ahead, check your local GS. They surely have $2 "used" copies a plenty - that are still sealed.
At any rate, I'm w/ Spoony on this one. They really can charge what they want for a used game. And if demand is high enough, folks will buy it. That's just how it works. I've bought way too many "under market" priced games from GS to piss and moan about this one. Maybe it's a bit of a dick move to have such a huge mark-up on a used game, but again, if dudes wanna pay $90 for Xenoblade then go for it.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles out of print?
Since some people still don't seem to understand how I was explaining the Toys R Us method:

You see, there are the game case artworks front and back printed on a flippable sheet. THE ACTUAL GAME CASES ARE NOT THERE. So you can shop them fine by looking at the print outs, because you can see the front and back of the game case's artwork by lifting its printed sheet. If you want to buy the game, you simply take one of the slips of paper from beneath the respective game to the counter. Using the slip, the sales associate finds the respective game new and sealed for you from the game safe. If there are no more slips left it means there's no current stock left for the game. It's a really simple system folks, that Toys R Us has been using for decades now.
This system means the retailer doesn't have to open any of its sealed games at all to sell them. It means the consumer can't just steal a new game off the shelf and sneak out with it, because the actual sealed games are locked behind the counter. This is the system GS should also use for its new games. But GS won't, because it makes it harder for GS to manipulate prices.

How would that system make it harder for them to manipulate prices?
Also, I like that at Gamestop I can check out the box/manual condition of a used title while browsing the store. If they just had images and vouchers, then the quality of everything they sell used (not just the disc) would be a crapshoot until after you were at the register.

With the current GS system you actually have no way of knowing if the game you are buying off the shelf is legitimately new. For example when I bought Odin Sphere years ago, the game was "new" but it came in an already opened case and the sales associate had to get the disc from behind the counter. So how do I know if I'm buying a truly new game or a used one in that scenario? GS could easily sell me a pristine used game as "new" and I would be none the wiser despite paying the premium price. Thus that is a price manipulation scheme in my opinion.

Except they would rather sell a game used as they make more from it. Unless you think they are taking trade ins and listint used games as new? I don't like buying gutting games just like any other collector, but I don't think GS has this scheme you are implying.
Don't buy a gutted game, it is that easy. Don't shop at Gamestop if you dislike their policies. They are convenient and have the best selection of games in a retail environment. You can also often find good deals. So knowing what GS is you can shop accordingly.
