Aegis Wing - The Best Average Game Ever
Re: Aegis Wing - The Best Average Game Ever
Aegis Wing isn't that bad. I thought the "lach on" mechanic was awesome. Where players can lach on to each other and create a huge uber fighter.

The equivalent of South Park's big gay pile from the Goo Backs episode!

Guys...this is gay. Like, really, really gay. This is even gayer than all the men getting in a big pile having sex with each other.Japhei wrote:John845 wrote:Aegis Wing isn't that bad. I disagree, this game is the best freebie available on Xbox Live Arcade. I have fun playing the multiplayer with my friends from time to time. I still have one achievement left to get on it, and I think it is quite decent for what it is: an intern project that was deemed worthy of becoming a free Live Arcade Title. It's been a gateway game for some of my friends, I was able to convince them to try better shooters because they thought Aegis Wing was "ok".

You clearly haven't played much Deep Blue or Energy on the PC Engine. Perhaps not the worst ever, but in the neighborhood.

Obviously I'm in the minority, but I agree with LoneCynic. It's far from worst ever.
However, it depends on perspective. Admittingly, the shmup genre is very small and the games that do creep out are generally of high quality. I imagine those judging the game as 'shit' are looking from primarily this viewpoint.
As a videogame, Aegis Wing can be entertaining. As mentioned previously(and laughed at) it introduces some unique gameplay variations.
As a shmup in an elite genre, yes, it pales in comparison to the refined play of Cave, Treasure, Grev, etc.

For a free game, it is amazing.
If I had to pay money for it, I would probably have some complaints. But seeing as how its free, the complaints are non-existent gripes.

Eh, there's pretty much a minimum amount of fun you can have with a shmup. Sure this game is pretty close to that minimum, but it's still well above the threshold separating fun with unfun. And the price was right.
Though I'd argue that that stupid Doritos game where you're a dinosaur smashing shit is the best free game on Live. A highly enjoyable forty minutes and some easy gamerpoints. Quite a pleasant surprise.
