Damn. One thing I like about the checkpoint system in this is that if you die during a boss fight you just respawn, but it looks like dying against the Stage 8 boss sends you back to the start of Stage 8...

In case anyone was wondering: Yes. I hate 2-4. I think it was about last year sometime that I was playing this last, and I outpaced my high score by almost 1 million. Happy about that, but stage 4 might end up being my wall. I don't really feel like climbing back into this one soon, but I could see being able to get to stage 5 with a little luck.

I'd never even noticed a rank system in this game until this thread--. I don't really find it all that severe, though. Also, I can't imagine one bad day would be enough time to implement a rank system; It must have been a bad month.

Really curious if anyone else has gotten the 1up in stage 2. I was getting it regularly when I played Shienryu last year right where the turret pops up in the middle, with the tanks filing out of either side, after the first purple robot with the charge beam. This time, I wasn't able to get it once--at least, in that spot. This time, I was able to get it once from the red tanks that drive up the left side when the first purple robot shows up. Is it just random, or are there conditions for this thing?

Three of the worst possible deaths I could've imagined on the stage 4 boss: Died twice on the first form, and last one was on the second. Pretty souring end to a really bitchin' run.

I got another 1up item on this run; this time it was from one of the first two item dropping boats on the left side of stage 3. Really confused by these 1ups. Has anyone else gotten one before?
