I am planing on getting a CECHA01 model PS3 and I am just wondering if its safe to switch hard drives. I already have a PS3 Slim (CECH-30xxA) I just need to know if its actually ok and be sure that the original PS3's hard drive does not have some kind of data in there that needs in order to play PS2 games properly.
I dunno, its a stupid question and I have no life to figure out on my own. Also, I just want to be sure that I don't throw away $200 for it.

Re: Switching Hard Drives
When you boot your PS3 up with a new HDD, it will prompt to you format it, etc. Once done it will be like you have a new PS3.
If you want to backup your current HDD, you can using the Backup Utility found on the Sony website.

Don't the original PS3's store part of their firmware on the HDD?

Re: Switching Hard Drives
When I added a bigger HDD to my 80GB Fatty PS3, it wanted info that I just happened to save onto a portable HDD to do a system recovery. Didn't lose any of my data or anything, it was actually quite easy.
