Maybe Nintendo just doesn't want to give $10 per console sold to Sony?

Or they could just consider it unimportant I guess. Doesn't Nintendo consider their console pure gaming machines or something of that nature?

Yes specially with the Mii-verse thing they have going on. They could include user made achievements so friends could dare one another :D

Selling the console would be an achievement.

It would depend on how the Bluray license agreement is written. It should be doable, but I highly doubt it will happen. That said, I would pay for it if it was released.

They didn't mind putting netflix on their consoles, so I hardly think that's it.

That's probably what they'd say, but, they didn't exactly rationalize cartridges over optical media to gamers by explaining the business side of things then either. They came up with a sales/marketing friendly answer, and rolled with that.

Some times Nintendo seems like a very conservative company. I wonder what would it get for an engineer (or a game designer) to get something new done in there.

They don't want to copy competitors. They probably want to have achievements, but they don't want to be seen as copying Microsoft.

Remember when Kinect and Move came out, and someone in Nintendo said that Microsoft and Sony should be embarrassed for their blatant bandwagon-riding/copying of motion controls? I think Nintendo doesn't want that line of reasoning reversed onto them.

They kind of (not really) sort of have achievements in NSMBU.... nevermind.

I will always buy Nintendo stuff (fanboy) anyway, but, God, I wish they had achievements.

I don't know, I kind of agree with Nintendo when they say they just want to focus on games and not additional costs to their consoles. I don't really know why people still care about DVD and Blu Ray playback. Well especially DVD playback anyways. I don't need a 400th DVD player and I already have a Blu Ray player.

As for achievements, I've never cared for them, but I do think Nintendo should have them. People can get a lot of enjoyment and replay value out of games trying to get them.
