Well, I don't think I'd really change my opinions if I met more people. My grandpa knows hundreds of black people at this point, and he's still a racist.
Also, there's something called sunshine in the U.S. I know in some parts of Europe, you haven't ever heard of that.

You don't know that. Meeting different people has changed some of my opinions completely around, and reinforced others.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Well, I don't think I'd really change my opinions if I met more people. My grandpa knows hundreds of black people at this point, and he's still a racist.
Some parts of the US haven't either.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Also, there's something called sunshine in the U.S. I know in some parts of Europe, you haven't ever heard of that.

You're saying like it's a bad thing. It's dark as hell here for 50% of the year (although the sun never goes down at summer) and I still think the sun shines way too much. Had to tape my windows to keep it from illuminating my gaming room.Forlorn Drifter wrote: Also, there's something called sunshine in the U.S. I know in some parts of Europe, you haven't ever heard of that.
No matter how extroverted you are, you're still basing your views and opinions on a very limited pool of people. If you want to have true knowledge, you need to look things on a very large (nationwide or global) scale, observe statistics and seek out correlations. That way your objectivity won't by clouded by personal influences (aka that one guy you know)AppleQueso wrote:It is when you're trying to make generalized statements about people based only on your own experiences.Forlorn Drifter wrote: ??? And? My grandpa's almost 80, he isn't really causing many issues. At the time he was growing up, it was kind of the norm.oxymoron wrote:

And I thought this thread was supposed to be fun? We started with statistics that proved nothing besides that the culture of the U.S. and the culture of Europe are different, and then we went to stereotypes, now we're getting politically correct and boring, like some argue the U.S. is.

The US sucks because you only have 1 good team sport that is popular, basketball. You guys like baseball FFS. BASEBALL. And you make fun of the rest of the world for liking football.
Handegg is kind of fun to play I guess, but boring to watch imo. There's too much downtime.

I'm American, but I hate baseball and basketball. I'd much rather watch hockey.ZeroAX wrote:The US sucks because you only have 1 good team sport that is popular, basketball. You guys like baseball FFS. BASEBALL. And you make fun of the rest of the world for liking football.

Even when I was young, I always wondered why we called American football "football".

I haven't met many people who actually like baseball. I think there are more Japanese people that like baseball at this point. I'm not huge into sports though, so meh...
This was a pretty fun read. Not too fond of America or the people here myself, but I'm not going anywhere any time soon.

I agree, but when you say "Most X people are Y in my experience" and then go on to basically say "I haven't actually met very many X people" it kinda undermines your point, don'tcha think?Menegrothx wrote:No matter how extroverted you are, you're still basing your views and opinions on a very limited pool of people. It was just a light hearted jab anyway.
