Where Do You Do Your Christmas Shopping?

Post by racketboy »

I try to do as much of mine at Amazon.com as possible.
My wife has some specifics tastes though (much like myself), so I also have to make some online purchases at some other online clothing stores or something like that....

I might pick up a few small things at brick-and-mortar stores, but I try to avoid retail stores in the month of December.

How 'bout you?

Last year, I had to shop for 9 people. Three of them were grandmothers (well, technically two were grandmothers and the third person was my great-grandmother), so I just made three gift bags with a box of chocolates, a scented candle, some potporri, and some other things. And all that was about $8 each. The other six (my parents, my aunt and her two boys, and my Secret Santa over on my dad's side) were shopped for on Best Buy. My parent's each got a CD (my dad got a Larry the Cable Guy CD and my mom got Joan Jett's "Sinner" album), and everyone else got a DVD of my choice (my aunt got "Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical" cuz I figured she might get a kick out of it; my cousins each got "Labyrinth" and "Dark Crystal", respectively; and my Secret Santa was my Uncle Scott who likes Steven Segal movies and James Bond films, so I got him "Dr. No", which means that whoever gets his name this year should prolly get him the next film in the series). I was originally gonna shop for my aunt and cousins differently. Originally, my aunt was gonna get a small collection of musical films (Rocky Horror Picture Show, Shock Treatment, etc) and my cousins were gonna get a small collection of fantasy films (The Jim Henson Fantasy Box Set, Return to Oz, etc), but that was a bust since I stopped getting hours last year and couldn't get a bonus because I wasn't there long enough for one.

This year, I plan on trying to do what I wanted to do last year. If I can, I'm gonna get my aunt a small collection of some of my fave films, including some musicals and some Italian horror. And my cousins will get a small collection of sci-fi and fantasy films. But... that all depends on whether or not I can get more hours closer to Christmas. As with last year, I'm going to go online.

I actually like to get stuff off ebay, because you can find exactly what you want and you can often find something special or unique that you wouldn't find in a store. Of course, you have to do your shopping early since once you get close to Xmas, ebay is full of evil, greedy price-gougers with no soul(or holiday spirit).

Even though I blew through my employee discount back in March (Amazon Prime is a seductive mistress), I do basically all of my shopping on Amazon. I have a long list of games that are preorded and waiting for the release dates to come in. And when I shop for other people, the aforementioned Prime means I can very easily target when gifts will arrive, thanks to free two day shipping. Plus, my entire family still lives back in Chicago, so if I didn't order online I'd still have to play to ship anything I buy back to them.

I go to various stores like Best Buy, Borders, Barns & Noble ect. Sometimes I do Amazon shopping, but mostly I do my shopping instore. Also, recently I started to shop early like months before the Holiday Season. The main reason why I did this is because I wanted to get it out of the way, so I can save money during the holidays (my savings got raped last year because of the gas price).

For the most part I most of my Christmas Gift Shopping online eBay, amazon.com and then some other smaller online retailers.

I hate malls and refuse to go them. I've been to a mall once this year and that was to get a rent a Tuxedo for my friends wedding. For the most part I steer clear of them.

I do all my shopping early. I get stuff from Ebay or Craigslist (classic gaming, of course), and clothes from JC Penny or Ross. What can I say, I'm a poor bastard. I almost never buy things from Amazon bc they tend to be a lot more expensive than Ebay, though at times I'll buy CDs or DVDs b/c occassionally those will have good deals.
I have a ton of games listed at my store's site: Super Smash Video Games

I work in retail so the last thing I wanna do is go fight crowds to shop.

The last few years, I've done 75% of my shopping online.

Ebay and Cafe Press, baby.
