Check the FMCB link I posted in my first post in this thread. If you click on the Installation tab, it'll give you all the options of installing FMCB on a memory card. Or, just get some one to do it for you.

There's a number of ways to communicate with the PS2 HDD. You can use a crossover ethernet cable and plug your PS2 (via the network adapter) directly into your computer. Or, you can plug your PS2 into your network (router) with a standard ethernet cable. Another way is to just take the HDD out of the PS2 and link it directly with your PC. You can hook it up internally or with an external enclosure. Any method, you use software on the PC end to be able to mess around with the PS2 drive.

I have an 80GB drive in mine. Since games vary in size, let's just say they're an average of 4GB (even though some are way less than that). That would allow me to store 20 games on my 80GB HDD. You could always remove games from the HDD that you don't plan on playing any time soon, they can always be restored to the HDD again anyway. Or, get a larger HDD, but I forget what the max size allowed is.

PS2 game library is giant. Don't take its sheer size for granted.
Not even counting PS1 games, or movies, music...

Better have epic self control. Especially if modded to auto run imports and backups.

To throw my own experience in... I've had a SCPH-70001 since 2007, and it still runs perfectly today. The laser thus far has been fine, even using burned DVDs half the time. I don't mind the external PSU either. I'd say one advantage of the PSU being external is if it dies it's very easy to replace. Another advantage of the PSU being external is it's not adding additional heat to the inside of the PS2's hardware. (That said I also bought a SCPH-90001 just in case the 70001 ever does die.)

What the cheapest we can expect to pick up a NIB PS2 slim for anyway?

If I could find one for $50-80 I'd jump on it. I do not see auch bargains online. Any retail stores i should try? I'd like to have backup unit before they are inpossible to find. Same for the PSP 3000 as well. I live in Canada it is prolly slim pickings.

I have a large store called Trade It around the corner from me that is essentially a giant Pawn Shop. They have stacks of PS2's in fat and slim. I purchased my 9000 slim with internal Power Supply last year for $35, in great shape (incl. cables and a controller). It has been great, and I have no problems. They even have a free 12 month garauntee on used Consoles, so if it goes, I can swap it out.

Bottom line for me is, PS2 consoles are everywhere. I would not pay more than $35 (US) for one and it needs to be in great shape! Even in Canada, I imagine you can find them everywhere.

Incidentally, they have more slims than fat models. The great thing about the PS2 for me is that you can pick up good games everyday of the week from this store near me for $0.99! The library is enormous and you always find an interesting looking game you have never heard of for next to nothing, so there is no risk of being burned for trying something new! For the price of a new PS3 game, I can pick up and entire collection of PS2 classics that will last me and my son years of play time!

Now think about how many PS1 games there are too.......

....And all PSP Models are now $59.99 (US) at this store. They are not quite as prevelent as PS2's, but they have about 15 PSP's at any one time to chose from. A PSP purchase is on my list of wants before the end of the year.

I also dont think you have to worry about PS2 consoles becoming scarce any time soon, so wait for a good deal on a good unit. You will find one im sure.

My 2 cents.

Good Luck

No such things where I live. Besides, I want to buy these new, not second hand. No point in buying backup systems second hand as that is a crapshoot.

Do any retail stores even carry PSP and PS2's anymore?

Last year when I bought my BNIB PS2 Slim I got it from Amazon. They still have a few left. $125.99 & FREE Shipping, which I think is quite reasonable given the rarity of BNIB PS2 Slims you'll find offline. Also you can buy a brand new PSP 3000 from Amazon for $99 plus free shipping right now. Just know that once those Slims and 3000s are gone, they aren't getting restocked.

PS2 Slims NIB generally run about $130. Walmart.com randomly had them in stock for a few days once or twice earlier this year at MSRP but I don't think that going to happen again.

Most retailers voluntarily quit stocking PS2s before they went out of print, which is why it's nearly impossible to find them in stock from non-resellers even though they only stopped manufacturing in January. Sort of like how the PSone was still being made all the way until 2006, though you wouldn't have known it since they vanished from stores in early '04.

I'm still looking for a Playstation 2 .

If i am going to play 40 to 50 bucks, I am going to go with the newest (9000x) slim. I won't have to buy new cords or cables.

Are the ones they sell on amazon the newest ones? I just got confused by the stock photo they have and they don't specify.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss? ... ystation+2

The first result says by Sony (Jul 13, 2007).

then they have another one saying Sony (Sep 21, 2006).
