Public transportation is virtually nonexistent in many parts of the US. I have lived in Maine for 30 years and have never taken a city bus or taxi. I have taken trains, but that was to go long distance (leave the state).
I do chuckle whenever someone calls Obama or the Democratic party "leftist."
My wife loves Spain. I have never been.

What's the point of this thread? Also why are you grouping all Europeans together? The cultural difference between North and South Europeans is larger than it is between Americans and North/Central Europeans. UK is different from the rest of Europe, as is Eastern Europe. Europe consists of different nations that all have their ethnic, religious and cultural identity where as in USA is a single country (although regional differences do exist, they're not as big as between actual nations naturally).
I think you're also missing the most important point here: Japan and North&South Korea are the most superior cultures on this planet
That doesn't mean every one in Europe loves public transportation though. Most middle class people gladly change public transportation for a car if it means that they can move away from the city and have some peace and quiet. I for one dislike public transportation because I hate crowds. Though I also hate driving in the city
Btw I don't see what's the point in being religious if it's not going to affect the moral state of the country in anyway. America is just as morally bankrupt and liberal as Europe. Nor do you need religion in order to be morally righteous either, just look at North Korea. Although less extreme, Japan is also an example of a largely atheistic country that still has some pride in it's heritage and culture. Many modern social conservatives are atheists.

Forlorn Drifter wrote:All of those issues with transportation? Yeah, I just don't see the argument really, as so much more of the U.S. is still spread out by comparison.
It's true that many European countries are overpopulated, but there are sparsely populated countries too. Texas has more than 2 times larger population density than we're I'm from, yet we still have functioning public transportation. It's a matter of designing your infrastructure and cities efficiently and having the political motivation to support a public transportation system.Hazerd wrote:I dont live in a big city, so public transportation would never work for a daily job. America is too spread out, unlike Europe, would you can visit 3 countries in 1-2 days maybe?

Eastern Europe is quite religious and conservative, maybe more so than USA. Also Europe is becoming increasingly islamified so there's that too.Forlorn Drifter wrote: And damn Europe is full of Godless heathens.

Japan as largely atheistic country? Percentage of religiousness is over 100 - many people are on multiple religion. But judging by the population alone, less than 50% is atheist.
But back on topic: Europe is way less conservative than the US and overall, the normal people:redneck ratio is better maybe.

Japan is statistically religious, but secular. In other words most people belong to a church, but don't really believe in God, or their religion doesn't really affect their every day life in any way. Guess what? So is most of Europe. Ironically enough in some European countries the church and state aren't separated by constitution and there is an "official religion" (state church).

Also it should be noted that Asian religions are different from Middle-Eastern religions
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan#Religion
Other studies have suggested that only 30 percent of the population identify themselves as belonging to a religion.[175] According to Edwin Reischauer and Marius Jansen, some 70–80% of the Japanese regularly tell pollsters they do not consider themselves believers in any religion.[176]
I'd say that Japan and China (don't know about South Korea) are more atheist than Europe

USA is far from a theocracy too

I think you caught that I was joking, but I was, just to be sure. I am aware eastern Europe is strongly religious and conservative- in both Russia and the Ukraine its not uncommon for military weapons to be blessed by clergy. (Not to make anyone think its extremely common, but it does happen.)Menegrothx wrote:Eastern Europe is quite religious and conservative, maybe more so than USA. I don't really see connecting religion to a country's moral standing at all though. For example, the U.S. is supposed to have separation of and State. I don't really think its right to make any connection between morals and religion in a supposedly secular government.
