I agree.
I wasn't saying that there is a game or a set of games that are absolute system sellers. You know the games that define a generation. I don't think those are out yet.
What I am saying is the system isn't barren. It's not like there's nothing on it, but that does seem to be how people are framing the platform: A Failing system that has nothing to play and marks the death of Nintendo. It's just stretching poor sales into a larger narrative that isn't true.
In general, I'll have some systems that are automatic buys, just it's a matter of when. But, if I were in the camp of, I wait to see how any given system will play out first ... they have to have some sort of critical mass library. That means there's some of those monument in gaming games there ... but mostly, there's a TON of "good" games that are just fun to play or enjoyable in some way. They don't have to be the best ever made and they don't have to be the most unique thing in the world, but if they can justify the time spent to play them, then I'll consider it.
I think, The Wii U has the latter type of game in abundance and I think the milestone games will be there relatively soon. And on top of that ... the "same old same old" games that are there, are actually some of the best versions. For example, New Super Mario Bros. U, personally, I was like OK, cool, Mario. Whatever. But when I played it ... it's easily the best "New Super" Mario game. The others don't really compare. ZombiU is not the most polished game out there, but it is incredibly unique. NintendoLand is a metric ton more fun than Wii Sports could even imagine being and for people who grew up playing Nintendo games, it's a blast. Then there's Pikmin 3 and other games are dropping down the pipeline ... where it's not really a bad deal.
My opinion, a little deeper, on the matter:
