PS3 Hidden Gems
Before this generation is gone and prices start to shoot up for the collector's market, I'd like to start collecting the hidden gems of the PS3 library.
I define a hidden gem as a game that is worth playing but isn't particularly well known. The game doesn't have to be rare to fall into this, but that often is the case.
So I'll start with what I already have that might be considered hidden gems on PS3. Feel free to chime in and add to this.
3D Dot Game Heroes (Pixel-style 3D classic overhead Zelda clone)
Arcana Heart 3 (European English release)
Bionic Commando (The Super Mario 64 for Bionic Commando)
DarkVoid (It got pretty bad reviews, but it's a surprisingly awesome concept)
Darkness, The (amazingly realized dark horror FPS based on an awesome comic character)
Doom 3 BFG Edition (made almost no media attention, I don't see it ever in used stores)
Eternal Sonata (What if Frédéric Chopin dreamed of anime girls while dying?)
Singularity (pretty damn unique FPS in a world of cookie-cutter COD clones)
Valkyria Chronicles (I NEVER see this game for sale)

Re: PS3 Hidden Gems
So we're talking anything? Not just exclusives? (only two of those games are only on PS3)
It makes little sense to talk about multi-platform releases when you're talking about a specific platform's hidden gems. Otherwise it'd just be hidden gems of the entire generation.
But ...
Folklore
Disgaea 3,4
Heavy Rain
MotorStorm Pacific Rift
Siren Blood Curse
Yakuza 3

Re: PS3 Hidden Gems
I honestly think it would be better to list them that way. Maybe a color coding? Black is both, green is 360, and red is PS3?Cronozilla wrote:So we're talking anything? Not just exclusives? (only two of those games are only on PS3)

I'm just think that the whole generation is so focused on multiplatform that it really is hard to make a list without ending up with a list that is 3/4's multiplatform games.
Saying that...
Vanquish
Catherine (Decent attention in certain places, still argue it went pretty under the radar)
Brutal Legend (Same as Catherine, except a bit further under the radar)

I love Catherine (but I really mean Katherine >_>) and Yakuza so those are good picks for sure. lol. How are we describing hidden gems though? Unknown to the general mainstream? Lack of commercial success?

Re: PS3 Hidden Gems
I'm only interested in talking PS3 hidden gems in this thread - If said PS3 hidden gems are also on other platforms is irreverent.Cronozilla wrote:So we're talking anything? Not just exclusives? Wait a minute, Heavy Rain is a hidden gem? Isn't that among the most successful and most promoted PS3 games?Cronozilla wrote: Heavy Rain
Great idea. Or just some otherwise note that these hidden gems are also on another platform and then mention it. There's no reason to ONLY talk about PS3 exclusive gems if there are 360 gems that are also on PS3.Forlorn Drifter wrote: I honestly think it would be better to list them that way. Re: PS3 Hidden Gems
I was gonna say Eternal Sonata. Loved that game.
Re: PS3 Hidden Gems
Afrika definitely, if your a photographer this game is boss. There is a ton of cameras and upgrades, nothing groundbreaking gameplay wise but very authentic to the experience it tries to create.
If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.
Re: PS3 Hidden Gems
I decided when I saw it that I couldn't be bothered this time. But yeah, we've talked about this topic umteenthousandmillion times. Someone else can do the dirty work...Gamerforlife wrote:I feel like dsheinem is going to chime in at any moment saying there's already a thread for this
