What platformer are you playing now?
Re: What platformer are you playing now?
Started playing Klonoa (Wii) and I'm having a good time so far. It's a really charming game that reminds me of Kirby's Epic Yarn in a way.

Klonoa is a great game with a very shocking, poignant ending. I hope that you play it to completion.
I am playing Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land as part of the Summer Gaming Challenge, and I am enjoying it immensely (although not as much as Wario Land II or Wario Land III). It is not a very long game, however, and even though I have only been playing it for a few days, I expect to complete it tonight or tomorrow.
Also - and since we have some Wayforward fans on here - have any of you played:
Sabrina: The Animated Series: Zapped! (2000, Game Boy Color);
Sabrina: The Animated Series: Spooked! (2001, Game Boy Color)?
They are both by Wayforward; they are both platformers; and they were both released just before the sublime Wendy: Every Witch Way and Shantae. I have the opportunity to grab one of them for a good price; so, I was wondering if any of our Wayforward fans had any thoughts on the games.

I generally finish what I start, so I'll look forward to the ending.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Klonoa is a great game with a very shocking, poignant ending. I hope that you play it to completion.

Wario Land is one of the few Gameboy games I had when I was a kid and I played the crap out of it. Not really sure whether or not 7 year old me ever finished it or not but it's really good nonetheless.
Staying on the Wario Land subject, out of the rest in the series 2-4, would you say Is the most worthy of being played? I've got Shake It! on the Wii as it looks really good but I want to play one of the Gameboy games before I jump to it. I'd like to play em all but for now, if you had to pick 1, what would you say?

Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!
At first I thought this was a bit cluttered compared to the first game, but as I went on holy crap I have to say this KILLS the first Spyro game in every way possible. There's something 'magical' and soothing about flying around and collecting gems, and along with that the sequel brings even BETTER music by Stewart Copeland of The Police, lots of varied objectives, more interactive characters, and bigger/more interesting worlds to go along with it. I have to say in terms of control Spyro is among the best out there; it feels effortless and fun just running around aimlessly. The game never gets boring either; always something fresh around the corner. Highly recommended people give the series a try if they haven't already if you're looking for a nice and easy, relaxing game that feels rewarding and most of all fun as hell.

It's been years since I rented and beat Spyro 2. I seem to remember enjoying it alot more than the first one as well. Can't remember if I've ever played the third game in the series or not....hmmm.

Been a long time coming, but I'm digging into Ratchet & Clank (HD) and definitely digging it. I'd actually say the environments and even the music, often remind me of Metroid Prime which is pretty cool. Prime was obviously a lot darker, but still had really lush and vibrant worlds. Sci-fi is always a plus with me.
I missed out on pretty much all the PS2 platformers, so I plan to grab the Sly and Jak collections sometime as well.
I still tend to prefer Mario stuff over what I've played of Ratchet so far though. Mario Galaxy... I guess I like when the level design completely defies logic and it's more about weird platforming and such. I can't even explain it, but yeah. Really pumped for Sonic Lost World, and I need to get Galaxy 2 sometime.

I've never been interested much in playing the R&C games but I really enjoy the Sly Cooper games.Xeogred wrote:Been a long time coming, but I'm digging into Ratchet & Clank (HD) and definitely digging it. Re: What platformer are you playing now?
I think the Ratchet & Clank series start to hit its stride in Going Commando. In that game it feels like they really nailed down the formula, and would perfect it later in Tools of Destruction
The Sly series is the best of the PS2's big three platformer franchises for me though, and is making a come back with the recent Thieves in Time too.
The Jak series isn't even worth bothering with IMO

Forgot that existed, should pick it up sometime. How's the Vita version?Gamerforlife wrote:I think the Ratchet & Clank series start to hit its stride in Going Commando. In that game it feels like they really nailed down the formula, and would perfect it later in Tools of Destruction

I liked Jak and Dexter, didn't like where the series went from there though. -_-

Re: What platformer are you playing now?
I'm really looking forward to playing the Sly, R&C and Jak and Daxter games in general.
I'm interested in seeing how Naughty Dog and Insomniac followed up Crash and Spyro with those games being as good as they are. By the time I get around to all the great 3D platformers from that era of gaming hopefully there will be another revival of sorts for the genre to dig into.
Yeah, the vehicles and open-world GTA concept for Jak 2 & 3 doesn't sound like it would necessarily be my cup of tea compared to how the first game in the series sounds.
