Which Saturn Games Still Matter?

Post by racketboy »

This question might be a little harder to answer as classic gaming aficionados, but what games for this system do you think are still worth playing to the average gamer?

Things to consider:
Has the game been ported/enhanced on a newer system?
Has a newer game in the same genre made it obsolete?
Does the graphics limit it?
How well have the graphics aged?
Is there something unique about the game?

Let me know what game for the console you think are still relevant in today's gaming market.

I'll start with the obivous NiGHTS Into Dreams, Guardian Heroes, and Radiant Silvergun

Who's next?

Obviously Panzer Dragoon Saga. We have had nothing like it ever since.

I second PD Saga. The combat gameplay was so much more engaging than most RPGs and yet no similar games have been released since.

Burning Rangers is fairly unique, though I'm not sure how ultimately memorable.

Legend of Oasis rocked. I never ever could find more than about 70% of the items in the game, and even that required an FAQ.

And then there's always the Shining games. The Saturn had a collection of several, all unique. I'd love to see the Shining Force III saga redone on a modern system, all the games together at last, all pretty-like.

Can't forget;

Die Hard Arcade
Fighters Megamix
Dragon Force
Bulk Slash (iffy, because of the graphics...)
X-Men Vs Street Fighter
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (eh, ps1 version..)

And of course;

NiGHTS
Burning Rangers
Guardian Heroes
Daytona USA
Shining Force III
Radiant Silvergun
PD Series...

Just my nitpicks....
I'm on the fence with Die Hard Arcade. Great game and hasn't REALLY been duplicated, but it could have aged better.
Burning Rangers was a little rough around the edges so I have a hard time giving it a full thumbs up.
And while PD Saga definately gets a nod, I hesitate with the original two with Orta being out there on the Xbox.
