I thought of a nice perk of clearing your backlog a couple days ago. You play games that you wouldn't have given a second look at and end up having a good time with them. I purchased the PixelJunk bundle on PSN sometime ago with Shooter and Sidescroller being the only games that interested me. To clear my backlog I started playing PixelJunk Eden. This game has been keeping my interest for the past week and a half! I already have half of the Spectras. I didn't think I'd like it and wouldn't have given it a chance if I didn't have it already on my hard drive. I've bought a few of the Humble Bundles so maybe I'll find a few more hidden gold nuggets! :D

Divinity: Dragon Commander was released today. I really, really am enjoying it. It's one of those weird multi-genre games. It's an RTS that blends a bit of role playing with some card collecting and diplomacy stuff. It's really quite interesting. It's really hard though, even on the normal difficulty. I hear it evens out a bit once you get your empire a bit larger and have a more stable unit population but at the start the AI has no second thoughts about coming through and just wiping you out.

Plus dragons with jetpacks. Those are cool too.

No matter how much I love Shooter, Eden always draws me back for some reason. There's just something special about it that can keep me entertained for hours. I just zone out and play.

Been messing with the membranes in my USB Saturn pad. Took out the model2 dpad membrane I put in earlier this year and put in a 6 button Genesis one instead. I think I prefer it. It's a bit loose but I feel like I'm better with it, since it's so light. Accuracy has never been my problem but my speed is generally terrible with stiffer pads.

I think there is a double standard for Indie games: when somebody makes an indie platformer people say, "Oh look another Indie platformer that's original" it doesn't matter how good the game actually is. Nobody bothered to say anything about Bioshock Infinite just being another FPS or TLOU being just another 3rd person shooter, because they did what they did well even if it wasn't original. I guess people just assume that because it's indie it automatically thinks it's innovative.

The Last of US wasn't just another 3rd person shooter...
