I don't know, I'd much rather hold out for the Universal PPU, which gives you a variety of video outputs (composite, S-vid, RGB, component and VGA!). The guy working on it recently finished the PCB design and it's looking really promising at this point.

Whoever makes it easiest to install (Bonus points for solderless/non-permanent!) wins my vote.

Seconded.

I need a VGA out NES, but I can convert HDMI down or RGB up. So the cheaper option wins for me.

Oh, and I assume I couldn't use VGA from the PS2 for PAL/50HZ games, even if I wanted to?
N64/NES/FC/SNES/SFC/GB (SGB)/GBC (Black)(SGB)/FDS/Satellaview/Genesis/Mega Drive/Master System & maybe N64DD/GBC/GBA.

That might be the Universal PPU in that case, that HDMI+online leaderboard mod sounds like it's gonna cost a bundle. Both would involve extensive soldering of course, I don't see how you could install either board without breaking out a soldering iron.

In either case, both would be preferable to getting an RGB PPU. The different colors don't bother me that much (I certainly want the same colors as the composite PPU though) but the high price and the fact you're depriving a PlayChoice-10 or Vs. board of its PPU certainly do.

Normally 50hz mode is just RGB SCART. Not VGA.

If you somehow forced 480p or greater to use 50hz, monitors may or may not accept it.
50hz is non-standard in VGA. Never specified by the format.

So... Yes or no? I mean like...

PAL 480i 50HZ
PAL 480i 60HZ
PAL 480p 60HZ
N64/NES/FC/SNES/SFC/GB (SGB)/GBC (Black)(SGB)/FDS/Satellaview/Genesis/Mega Drive/Master System & maybe N64DD/GBC/GBA.

No. VGA doesn't use NSC or PAL, it's RGB based.

Those are strange modes either way.
PAL color generally isn't used with 480i or 480p (a few places like Brazil would have PAL 480i 60hz).
480i 50hz I doubt I've heard of.

So it's definately component for the absolute best picture from a PAL PS2 then?
And what about Wii VGA?
