I'd chase that big Sony monitor if one like that popped up around me.
I have a 14" PVM I use for older consoles that do 240p, and a 32" Sony XBR HD CRT for 480 systems. RGB on a PVM is gorgeous, and worth chasing.
Best of luck with your hunt.

TV Help - HD vs SD
Re: TV Help - HD vs SD
First thought: cool, a Sony monitor!
Second thought: why is it just riding around in the back of a pickup truck? Poor monitor.
As for the OP, I assume your TV has no scanlines. How does that make you feel?

I called the guy about the TV, and he wouldn't give me a model number but just told me to come look at it. He said it was used at my local FBI office, which doesn't really affect anything but I thought it was pretty cool lol. Anyway, I'm going to look at it soon and if I decide to pass on it I'll let you guys know where it's at

Hey, nothing wrong with HD CRT. The gain of one large TV supporting both Retro and HD signals, all with a sharp pic.

Looking forward to the followup story, try to get the model number and maybe more detailed pics of the back. Hold off on the photo shoot if your are going to buy it, might be able to negotiate a lower price if you don't appear enthusiastic. It appears to be a non HD CRT yet looks to have a VGA input. I would easily buy it for a hundred due to the rarity and its features.

Re: TV Help - HD vs SD
I had an older version of that Sony monitor. They do not have built in speakers, mine had mounts on the side for speakers which I did not have, I just used some decent small hifi speakers. The monitor itself was probably the best video gaming display I've ever owned. Mine had all the inputs on the one shown plus SCART. I ran everything from my NES through Dreamcast and even my Laserdisc player through it with stunning results, super crisp images with plenty of adjustment to fine tune things. Mine was also 50/60hz compatible which worked great for me as I was living in the UK at the time and had both PAL and NTSC machines running through it.
Price wise, I paid around $150 in 1998, at a time when no almost no one had plasma and no games machines put out anything better than 480i, so $175 in 2013 for an SD monitor seems a little high, great sets though, would love another.
