Collecting for the PS2 & PSP, now is the time
Re: Collecting for the PS2 & PSP, now is the time
Yeah, that one will prolly go up in price since it is considered a good game. PSP has a lot of games like that.
Re: Collecting for the PS2 & PSP, now is the time
Rarity is not the point here though, leave that to gotta catch them all collectors. I am not looking for titles that will one day cost hundreds. I doubt there will be too many such titles on these systems anyway. Thing is PS2/PSP titles are as cheap now as they will prolly ever be. Even if a good overlooked game costs $5-10 now and might come to cost double that in a few years it is worth buying now. This especially true if you want to buy several games. A $10 increase on average for each title still adds up to $100 if you plan on buying 10 titles.
In fact the best time for stocking up for the future was when used game stores like Gamestop still carried PS2/PSP titles and were trying to clear inventory space.
Still not too late though. I'd like more suggestions for the PSP, I have a bunch of games for it but I imagine there many more i should get.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet or not, but here's my recommendation for your PSP collecting:

It can be had brand new for $20 on Amazon.
Even if you don't enjoy the plot, the gameplay is pure gold. I put about 46 hours in it and loved nearly every minute. It's an excellent, excellent game.

^I'm not quite done with the first game on Ps3. I haven't heard a ton of great things about the PSP sequel, but for $20 it's probably worth trying out for myself, so I'll keep that in mind. I'm definitely curious about it in any case.

VC2 is only $10 on the PSN. I can play that copy on my Vita or my PSPExhuminator wrote:I don't know if it's been mentioned yet or not, but here's my recommendation for your PSP collecting:

I've been selling off my PSP games and replacing them with PSN copies of the same, usually for a small profit. The cross-platform compatibility is a big plus, as is faster loading times, etc. I get that physical releases are nice/potentially more permanent, but it's hard to go back to playing UMDs on a smaller, poorer screen once I've experienced the same game on the Vita.

I can offer a small review I wrote for it on HLTB:AppleQueso wrote:I'm definitely curious about it in any case.

I also own the first game for PS3, but I have not played it yet unfortunately.
I am hoping that the team behind the VC3 translation pulls it off. They have made a lot of progress at least: http://vc3translationproject.wordpress.com/

In terms of level design the PS3 version is dramatically better. Valkyria Chronicles on PS3 is one of few masterpieces this generation in my opinion. It has a unique take on strategy gaming and the way it utilizes its innovations in each level is nothing short of astounding.
Unlike most games that are a repetion of their first hour of gameplay VC twists and turns your head with each level.
The PSP sequel is not a worthy successor. Level design is a lot less inspired and clearly tweaked for portable gaming and worse for it too.
Couldnt care less about narrative improvements in the 3rd one, I just hope they improved the level design.

I've heard good things about Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins for the PSP, so that one might be worth picking up for cheap while there is still time.
I am not sure how good it is but that Steambot Chronicle game might be worth looking into.

Re: Collecting for the PS2 & PSP, now is the time
I played Valkyria Chronicles II before the first game, and I thought it was awesome. It is awesome. It's just not as awesome as the first game.
It's much more of an RPG than the first one, where customization and planning your army's growth is far more important.
True that the levels aren't as big or interesting, but there are still good ones. I loved the new Armored Tech class and the revamped engineers are also great.
I forget what the story was already, but some of the skits were pretty funny. There's tons of more challenging post-game content. Just be sure to play on Hard mode.
