Sega Genesis Questions, (Page 5 for Update)
Re: Which Sega Genisis Should I Buy? And Other Questions.
You can get 3rd party Master System Converters that fit model 2's. But even then, if you have 32X hooked up you have to unplug it and reattach av cables.

Re: Which Sega Genisis Should I Buy? And Other Questions.
Well I got another question.
I am trying to buy a 3/4 Motherboard with a VA4 encoder. Most eBay sellers do not list such information, and when I ask them for a picture of the vents, they just give me the model number on the bottom sticker.
so i am curious to know is there any certain specific model numbers that will surely have to have a 3/4 motherboard with a VA4 encoder? that way I can just try searching that model number in a search engine or perhaps ask a seller if their sega has that model number.
for example, a seller messaged me back saying the model number is: MK-1631. I really doubt that is the one I am looking for. But it would be nice to know if there is a specific model number for the VA4 encoder and 3/4 motherboard Sega Genesis 2 i am looking for.

VA4 is not the Encoder, its the motherboard revision.sp957 wrote:Well I got another question.

Model or serial numbers wont help you find one. Just send the sellers a link to this picture and ask them if it looks like this. The VA4 are pretty uncommon so be prepared to email many sellers. Seems that about 1 in 15 or 20 is a 3/4 motherboard. And they can be either VA3 or VA4
If you are lucky you may find a seller who has many consoles on hand and will check them all for you.

I would not spend this much on any genesis.
Not the way its being offered to you.
For 50 bucks, no matter what version you get, there should be two 6 button controlers and at least 5 good games.
keep trying.
Buy a genesis with everything you can and then get the base console only.
Genesis are still fairly easy to find.
2600 and jr,5200,nes/top loader, master system, intellivision, TG-16, genesis 1,2,3, SNES, snesJR, CDX, 3DOfz10, gamegear, gameboy and pocket, GBC, sega saturn, PSOne w/screen, Virtual Boy, N64, NGPC, Gameboy Advance sp, Dreamcast, Black Dreamcast, oXBOX, Playstation 2, PStwo, Gamecube, gameboy player, DS lite,DSi XL, PSP1000/3000,Wii,PS3 120gb,3DSXL, xbox 360, PSvita, PS4
Re: Which Sega Genisis Should I Buy? And Other Questions.
Is it 50$ shipped? I would not be buying a random model 2 at the price but a va4 maybe.
If its including shipping and the console is nice condition I would probably take it and be done with it. If you keep looking you could always get lucky and find one for half the price. But chances are you will invest a lot of time in research to possibly not find any much better deal.
You have to look at 2-3 dozens model 2 to find a VA4.
Im not much into gambling.
But as previous poster said, if you do not have any hookup, controllers and game already, what he said makes sense. Just buy a "starter pack " and hunt for a VA4 after.

From memory I dont think it is suitable.
Model 2 adapter should be 9-10vdc, at least 850ma, center positive.
