To me, this game epitomizes the primitive nature of early polygonal games.
I'll give the game points for having a decent camera for an early 3D platformer. But that doesn't salvage the game for me.
My first complaint about the game are the characters. Nearly everyone I've ever met says these characters are some of the best in gaming history, and to be honest I really don't see it. Gruntilda really gets on my nerves because of how disgusting most of her dialogue and backstory are. I know that gross out humor was practically the norm back then, but that just shows how much this game has aged to me. And that's without mentioning how much I hate Banjo's "likable" idiocy and Kazooie's annoying personality.
The gameplay also bothers me. You have a bunch of attacks to use, but you really only need the roll attack.
The level design is some of the worst in any 3D platformer I've played. While some are tolerable, Rusty Bucket Bay is my least favorite level is any video game.
I don't have any problems with the aesthetics or music. They're not spectacular, but they get the job done.
That's just my two cents.
By the way, it's important to know that I do have nostalgia towards this game, but I'm willing to look past my nostalgia to see my true opinions on this game.

You seem to know a lot about this game you supposedly hate.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

I don't really like 3D platformers in general with (as always) a few exceptions. This leads to another unpopular opinion of my own. I never really liked Rare.

I mean I can see that they're talented people and they produced a lot of new IPs but none of their games ever made much of an impact on me. They were always just sort of there, producing games that I sometimes liked but never loved.

The N64 was an awesome console still worth owning

 . I just prefer the 20 games I want for it to the PS1 library. What can I say?

It's funny you should mention this because I've been downsizing my collection and one of the things I've been kicking around getting rid of is the N64. :P

Well I did play it all the way through to give it a fair chance.

You're not alone, I don't like Banjo-Kazooie, either.

But that's because I'm not too into 3D collect-a-thon platformers. And a goofy bear and bird doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

haha. let me know what you've got up for sale :P (most likely I can't buy it right now, but it's still nice to drool over potential buys  )

Now that's a very good argument, but the thing is it works exactly the opposite for me. I like well made collectathon platformers (DK64 overdid it of course), and specially kazzooie is a very favorite character of mine.

Haha, I'm sorry, but I'm with the guys above me. I never really liked Banjo Kazooie much. I wouldn't say I hate it, but I just couldn't get into it massively. The funny thing is I own TWO copies of Banjo-Tooie and I've never played it ever.

Crash is kinda novel as a 3D platformer concept that was designed independently from stuff like Mario 64. It's also a technical marvel and has actually aged extremely well visually, for whatever that's worth.

I think it's fun enough for what it is, but I don't really consider it great.

I love posting this link about its development though:

Like the game or not, it's still a fascinating read.
