What was the last movie you've seen?

yeah I loved it.dsheinem wrote:Indie Game: The Movie - I finally got around to seeing this, and was surprised to find a film that covered a topic of great interest to me (and that I feel I already knew a lot abut) in a way that was exceedingly compelling. The filmmakers weaved together several disparate yet illuminating narratives into an expertly paced and edited documentary. And, like the best documentary films, I left the film with a both sense of greater understanding and a sense of greater curiosity: it created an indelible snapshot of a moment which also revealed a much larger complexity than can be captured in any one study. In any case, it is well worth seeing by anyone who reads sites like this, and I recommend it.
Grade: 4/5
I'm baffled why there's no Indie Game The Movie The Game compilation? I assume that anyone who sees this would buy a 360 disc with those 3 games bundled together. Maybe a special edition with the movie on disc 2. Seems like easy $.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Just got back from The Wolverine. I thought it was on par with the first, which means I liked it. I'll do a proper review later I guess, but I think I've learned this summer that I vastly prefer comic book films with self-contained character development/arcs as opposed to those that expect that the audience saw other films and/or read the comics. Granted, there's some of that "universe" stuff floating around in the periphery of The Wolverine, but it is presented in a way that allows you to get the point without dragging down the rest of the film with call backs and allusions. The bit at the end/in the credits was really the only gratuitous "fanservice" part, and while it was pretty cool, it was also entirely unnecessary.
That said, this smart piece explains why it is necessary.

I went and saw Red 2, even though I never saw the first. I thought it was a fun action movie with some decent humor throughout. There was a "second half of True Lies" vibe throughout the film, and most importantly it looked like everyone involved was having a lot of fun with it. It's not often you get to see Helen Mirren being a total badass.

Of course but this reinforced the importance. I don't always abide by the law.MrPopo wrote:You didn't think avoiding being locked up was important before?oxymoron wrote:Just finished 25th Hour. People were cheering in my theater when they saw you-know-who pop up on screen. It was highly enjoyable.dsheinem wrote:The bit at the end/in the credits was really the only gratuitous "fanservice" part, and while it was pretty cool, it was also entirely unnecessary.
What a well written article, I might have to start visiting that site more often.dsheinem wrote:That said, this smart piece explains why it is necessary.

Even though it's only a few weeks old, it's already a stellar film site. I read stuff there daily.Stark wrote: What a well written article, I might have to start visiting that site more often.

What are some good mobster movies besides the obvious like Goodfellas, Casino, Scarface, etc.?

Public Enemy and Miller's Crossing are two that come to mind.oxymoron wrote:What are some good mobster movies besides the obvious like Goodfellas, Casino, Scarface, etc.?
