Is there just no love for The House of the Dead Collection or Ghost Squad on this forum?
Eh, the Wii's at my girlfriend's place. We've picked up a few titles, but she plays them more than me so I'm generally not much of a benefit when we do multiplayer. There are some good games on there, at least in my opinion, but I haven't taken the time to really look at what all got released there. Personally, I actually kinda liked Red Steel...
As for the other stuff, I got a laugh today when some friends told me they played games. When I asked what, they responded: Halo, CounterStrike, WoW, Pirates of the Caribbean Online, and Bejeweled. Like I said, it made me laugh.
I also don't really believe in trash talk. I used to play with a group that would make you eat your words. The more you trash talked, the worse it got. I remember hunting a guy down in one round of Call of Duty 4 so I could knife him close to 20 times, simply because all he did was talk about how great he was and bitch about or insult other players. After the first few kills, they were all aimed at me. I'd have stopped if he had stopped opening his mouth. I'm sorry, but if you talk trash, I have no reason to show mercy. And neither does anybody else.

Red Steel had a lot of potential, but no one had figured out how to properly do FPS Wiimote controls to suit those who are used to PCs. Metroid Prime 3 did a fantastic job of it, and it looks like The Conduit is going to be even better in that regard. So I would be willing to give Red Steel 2 a chance, as they've had time to learn from their mistakes.
Your CoD4 knife story does remind me of a fun time we had back in my Counter-Strike days. A bunch of the regulars on my clan server all ended up as CT on cs_office, and we all decided to play knife only. We ended the match with a 5-1 win ratio. They didn't start winning rounds until they realized that rushing the choke points would let them cut us down, and even then we were winning one for everyone one they got.

This topic reminds me of the geeks being baffled by the Seinfeld Microsoft ads that don't cater to them at all. The Wii is a new business model. Gaming has never been so mainstream before the Wii. Even in places previously dominated by the Playstation brand you got parents buying the Wii for their children instead and actually playing it with them, even if briefly. But there's no reason to be too concerned. There are two outlooks on this issue, people with either demand deeper gaming experiences or simply the whole industry will become Hollywoodised to the extreme, i.e. Beverly Hills Chihuahua being #1 at the box office for a FREAKING FORTNIGHT! But even if that happens, there'll always be a niche for old school gameplayers. Guys, it's just entertainment and most people don't care, as evident by the declining quality of other "mainstream art mediums". But you'll always have that niche. Pity it's becoming more expensive and risky to make games though. Expect to have lesser classics this generation that the previous ones!

The one difference is I don't think anyone has actually figured out who those ads were catering to.

Erm... What's funny with those games? Apart from Pirates Online, all the other games are huge hits and (not having played most of them) probably rather good games.
It seems like you would also laugh if someone in the 90s saying they played Sonic, Tetris and/or Mario...
BTW, as Spidey was mentioned - I've played a bunch of rather decent Spidey games on handhelds.
Ivo.

If they'd thrown in Guitar Hero, it would have been all the hugely popular titles, and that's it. When other people walk up to me and tell me what they play, and it's only specific games that are hugely popular, I laugh about it because I have difficulty seeing them as true gamers.
Think about it this way, if you only watched the current Hollywood blockbusters, but completely disregarded anything older than that year, anything not produced by a major Hollywood film company, or anything foreign, can you really call yourself a film buff?

Fellas, I have received several complaints about this topic and the overall elitism portrayed on the board. I know Ive been off in lala land the past month, and will be until November 17th when my cousin is finally married, but lets tone it down before we lose members/potentials.
