The PC versions lack voice acting I think. Also if you're crazy about physical releases like me then PSP is the way to go.KDub wrote:Well Ys I & II Chronicles on the PSP is a port of Ys I & II Complete for the PC. Complete is essentially the definite remake/repackaging of the first two. Then XSeed ported Chronicles with some new touches to Steam for PC. Making Chronicles on PC pretty much the best version to go with at least from what I can tell.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:I've been thinking about picking up the Ys titles on Steam. They're ports of the PSP games which were conversions of some of the original titles yes?
Can we just talk about how awesome Ys is?

While I haven't played these games with voice acting I feel like I'm glad that they don't.

I actually thought they were pretty well done. I could care less either way though, as long as they aren't cringeworthy.KDub wrote:While I haven't played these games with voice acting I feel like I'm glad that they don't.

The voice acting in the Ys games is pretty solid.
Anyone who really gets into the series needs to play the Turbo CD port of I&II. Those are the definitive versions, in my opinion, and the music is phenomenal.

I'd say the recent Steam version is clearly the definitive version. Why do you prefer the Turbo CD port?BoneSnapDeez wrote:The voice acting in the Ys games is pretty solid.

Re: Can we just talk about how awesome Ys is?
what are the differences between the steam and psp versions of ys chronicles? any reason I should buy the steam version if I have the psp version already?

Re: Can we just talk about how awesome Ys is?
-Adjustable high-resolution PC graphics with a smooth, consistent framerate.
-Greater viewing area than in previously-available Ys I & II Chronicles editions.
-Decorative screen frames available from the earlier Japan-only Ys I & II Complete PC release, in addition to the more modernized full-screen viewport of previous Ys I & II Chronicles editions.
That is it I believe unless you couldn't select the art style or soundtrack from the original chronicles release

You can select the PCE soundtrack in Chronicles on PSP or Steam. Also, you can start at 2 if you want, which I don't think you can do unless you have a save (I could be wrong on that one.)BoneSnapDeez wrote:The old-school 16-bit charm + DAT SOUNDTRACK.ZeoDefender wrote: I'd say the recent Steam version is clearly the definitive version. Been really curious about all the releases on Steam, sounds like they're pretty good. I'll have to grab them sometime.
