Places to buy a modded SCPH-1001 PS1?
Would love to know of a place to buy a pre-modded SCPH-1001 Playstation 1 or a place that offers a service to mod them... I'm very interested in the audiophile claims of the SCPH-1001's DAC and curious to hear for myself and yet still be able to play burnt games and such.

I am fairly certain that my modded PSX is a SCPH-1001. I bought it a couple years ago from Snowkitty, he even added a fan from a Dreamcast instead of cutting a big ugly hole like some people do. The downside is that I wont have access to it for another few weeks to ship since it is in another state.
Edit:
It is a 1001, its the one he talked about here:

If you are interested, I am up for selling/trading. Just know there will be a delay in me shipping it due to it being in storage at my parents currently.

Just buy a modded system if you want, but don't buy into the bullshit.
Unless of course I can interest you in some $1000 cables crafted by blind virgins and some stone harmonic balancing feet for $637 each to go along with it. Oh, and some magnets to align your power better.

Lol, well, good DACs can make a very great and noticeable difference in sound quality compared to cheap ones... they're not bullshit in any sense of the word. In terms of why, well instead of listening to cheap sounding, scratchy bleached-out distorted audio that kills my ears I like to have a decent quality DAC and amplifier that makes music listenable and have the instruments distinguishable with depth, etc. just to name some qualities that are immediately noticeable over say using your Realtek HD audio line-out with your laptop's built in amplification. I don't believe in any of that cable crap though, that's ridiculous... if it's well built then the cable does it's job IMO. For the rest though, simply listen for yourself with the equipment in real life before jumping to conclusions on a what a good DAC can sound like.
Same thing how Genesis 2's audio can sound really thin and distorted while the model 1 has a rich, analog-like bassy sound to it... it's because of the separated sound chip, the analog filters on the line out etc. all contributing to the superior sound... all this stuff makes a difference and for this case it turns out Sony used the Asahi Kasei AK4309AVM DAC for the early PS1's, which was that company's flagship DAC at the time, so it's no slouch I'm sure and beats the hell out of other Playstations no doubt.
In case for those curious, I managed to find a place to buy a model SCPH-5501 which has the same DAC, with the benefits of that model also allowing for the Stealth modchip to be installed that supports a lot more games that have anti-mod protection.
