I doubt it will ever happen, but I'd like to complete my SEGA library as much as possible. I've already set out to collect every NA release for the Dreamcast (including variants). My reason for collecting for the Dreamcast is pretty straight forward: I was collecting when games were going for a buck after the Dreamcast was discontinued and had a fairly impressive library for a 14 year old. After Katrina, I lost everything except for a single disc. Now that I have a decent job, I figured I'd start collecting again.
I can understand why some would think it's strange to own games you don't even like, but to me there's just something about owning everything for your favorite systems.
For me, there's no appeal for collecting Nintendo games. They're often overpriced and the systems don't have much nostalgia attached to them. For these systems, I only buy games I enjoy playing.
Anyone here collecting an entire system?

Personally, I would just want notable games, rare games, and any other titles that I have a personal interest in. I don't have the room for a bunch of crappy games just for the sake of a "complete" collection
Collectors seem to love complete sets though. I guess I just don't get it
The collecting and hunting for games can be as enjoyable as actually playing them I find.

That's sad to hear, man. What was that single disc that survived? Do you have a special connection to it?

Definitely something fun about having people over and having them ask about some game they had growing up that they haven't played in years, and being able to just grab it off a shelf and play it. Sure, sometimes they're horrible or even downright unplayable, but those ones are usually what you pick up cheap, and the nostalgia factor alone is usually worth the few bucks you shelled out for it.

I've often thought about what might have been if I decided to get one anyway. It was like a turning point for me. If I never bought that computer, I never would have started to dabble in digital video, I never would have gone into that as a career. I wouldn't be the same person I am today. It's a weird feeling I get when I think back to that decision.
I owe a lot to a system I never owned... I guess I'm collecting it as a tribute to what might have been. I'm so weird. Oh and also the Dreamcast has a metric ton of awesome games! I honestly think the graphics rival the PS2 in a lot of them. And full 480p resolution is so freaking beautiful.
Love it so much I build this for all the awesome arcade ports:

I am currently working on completing my Game Gear collection as well as slowly gaining a complete 2600 collection. 179 games in my GG collection, 154 in the 2600 collection
I am buying all Saturn games, PM me with your offerings and I will let you know if I need the game or not! (Everything must be CIB)
Currently trying to knock off all the sports games, would like to get them <$5 each! Of course if you would like to donate them I will gladly pay the shipping!

Unreal Tournament. No special connection, but it was the only disk I could locate that wasn't destroyed by the chemicals in the water or from the roof caving in. Kept it and the Dreamcast. I think I have a thread on here showing the Dreamcast still works after all these years. That thing went through a fire and a hurricane.muhanad wrote:That's sad to hear, man. Earthbound was my most prized game that I lost in Katrina though. Boxed with the guide. It wasn't even worth as much as it is now back then, but it was the game to get me into JRPGs.

Hehe! Thanks guys. It's not just a MAME cab; it has a Dreamcast in there too. Sorry to derail thread.
