Yeah me too, or at least release it on Steam at the same time since those have been pretty popular. I'm not sure why Falcom have been drawn to the PSP/Vita.
Probably because handhelds are way more popular than PC gaming in Japan.

Any opinions on Ys Origin? I have the other games on PSP but this I own on Steam since it's only available there.
That is fair, hopefully XSeed gets them to us somehow outside of Vita.

I haven't played Origin yet, I wanted to start with the originals. I know it uses the same engine as Oath of Felghana so I can say the gameplay should be solid.

I'm sure he'll be arriving at this thread shortly to show us just how much

Those who know me know that Ys is my favorite series.

Those who also enjoy it should check out the Japan-only installments - Ys IV: Dawn of Ys, Ys IV: Mask of the Sun, and Ys V: Ushinawareta Suna no Miyako Kefin. Those are the three titles that are criminally overlooked due to no American localization. I do believe both Ys IVs have translation patches though.

As far as collecting goes, I'm trying to get most of the major Ys games on various platforms (not counting the super-obscure MSX/PC88 originals and whatnot).

That is why I want the new PSVita game to come out on something besides Vita, it replaces the two Ys IV titles. I'm not sure how it replaces/combines them though. Hmmm, should look into this.

I'm hoping xseed does something really special for ys 25th anniversary and makes an ys limited edition vita console, then I would get a Vita. But I'm not holding my breath.

Neither one of the original Ys IVs was actually developed by Nihon Falcom, so they don't fit into the Ys canon. This new game is meant to replace them, story-wise.

If there is a price drop on the Vita I'd consider getting it for a new Ys game, I'll be itching to continue the story asap.

I figured they would still use some of the same elements though from the two previous releases and tie it all together, much like Oath of Felghana. Ys IV on the Famicom was considered the cannon one for a bit right?

I've been thinking about picking up the Ys titles on Steam. They're ports of the PSP games which were conversions of some of the original titles yes?
Older. Not wiser.

Oath in Felghana is literally a remake of Ys III.

Maybe the new Ys game will have elements of the two Ys IVs, I'm not sure - guess I'll find out once I play it.

But yeah, for a while the Super Famicom game (Mask of the Sun) was considered canon. Dawn of Ys is a much better game though.

Well Ys I & II Chronicles on the PSP is a port of Ys I & II Complete for the PC. Complete is essentially the definite remake/repackaging of the first two. Then XSeed ported Chronicles with some new touches to Steam for PC. Making Chronicles on PC pretty much the best version to go with at least from what I can tell.

I thought Ys Seven was really good.

I really couldn't get into the other PSP titles though. I think I prefer the older versions of the games. Ys I & II on TurboDuo > every other platform.
