There are fan made high res mods (new enemy models etc) and such to it. I've never bothered with that stuff, but if you ask the forums of Good old games, I'm sure they can help you out.

If your boyfriend likes FPS games and calls himself a PC gamer, then it's a game he must play.

What the co-op is like? I personally haven't played it myself, but I've heard it's fun. The game is a mixture of survival horror, RPG and FPS and it has a very tense atmosphere, so co-op might kind of kill it. But it should still provide an enjoyable experience.

Here's some random co-op gameplay footage of the game

Well you complained about turn based RPGs in another thread. System shock 2 is one of the finest action RPGs of all time, so if you in anyway enjoy RPGs, you'll enjoy it. And it has some of the best writing and one of the most intresting plots out of any FPS game.

Portal 2 has some of the finest co-op action you'll find from any first person view 3D game, so your options are kinda limited if you disliked the co-op of that game.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I really tried to like Bioshock and System Shock 2 but they were no go for me. SS2 really irritated me and BS looked nice and was an interesting plot but something was very off about the game play and I couldn't force myself to keep going on 3 different attempts. I'm pretty sure SS2 will be a bust if she didn't like BS.

I can't think of anything. Your boyfriend not liking third person discounts nearly all of the stuff that would fit within your guidelines. When you stick to first person, your majority are going to be run 'n gun shooters. There might be something in the lines of dungeon crawlers or the like too.

Minecraft has coop, I guess that's an option.

Neither Bioshock nor System Shock 2 have good gunplay. The difference is that SS2 is an actual RPG. You have a talent tree and limited amount of xp (cyber modules) for leveling up your skills, and the choices you make radically affect the way you play the game. You could use and upgrade pretty much everything in Bioshock. There were no hard choices to be made. If you don't have a strength of 5 and Exotic weapons skills of 6, you can use weapon X in System Shock. And unlike in Bioshock, System Shock 2 had inventory management, which was a big part of the survival horror atmosphere.
(Bioshock somewhat makes up for the lack of RPG elements by having different plasmids, which add tactical depth to the gameplay)

FPSRPGs aren't supposed to feel or play like Doom. Deus Ex, Vampire: The Masquerade, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas (and Bioshock Infinite, though it's not a FPSRPG) all suffer from the same problem. You can't really mix the statistics and maths of RPGs with the gunplay of FPS games in a smooth manner. But if you like RPG gameplay mechanics - character builds, leveling up, inventory management and all that stuff - you'll like System Shock 2 (and those other games too)

Older PC games I meant lol. I love old console games, why else would I be here?

I'll look into it more...we might have a winner...

I enjoy somethings from RPG games, like skills/stats and so forth. And the quests...I love quests.

The co-op had its pros but to many cons for us to really enjoy it. Technical issues mainly that I won't get into here.

Yeah I know...I told him it vastly limits us to what we can play but...it's his thing..just like I can't stand turn based combat games.

Dungeon crawlers is fine for both of us...we've both played a game or two like that and we didn't have issues with them.

He's not into Minecraft...idk why, just doesn't care for it. I should get him to try it..

Based on all the requirements, there really isn't much to recommend. Destiny was the first thing to come to mind, but it's not out yet. (By the way, it's for both PS3 and PS4) There's also some fantastic looking mods for Half-Life you could try out.

Minecraft would be my only recommendation. Kit and I spent months playing together, and we still hop on every now and then. There's something for everybody in it, and it's great to play with your significant other. You can build together, fight together, or have one person can go exploring and fighting mobs, while the other builds if you get sick of each other. You really have to play it to get into it and simply dismissing it because of the graphics is a huge mistake.

If you want more fighting and exploration, you can try CubeWorld:

I think it has a first person view, but I'm not 100% sure.

I should mention i'm not even thinking about that game because its a console game, because...he lives in another country. So that's why it's important for us to find a game with both can play and enjoy. I'v heard of cubeworld but it's not taking people right now, right?
