So I am a very nostalgic guy and always after popular culture material especially from 80's up until today. Do you guys know any sort of book or video material I could buy and see what was popular or what was going around in that year in particular?
I like to know what songs were populars, toys, magazines, websites, movies, tv shows, incidents, videogames , cars...almost anything.
I am especially looking for some sort of a film almanac maybe that lists years , and in each year what movies were released each month, something like with the movie poster, the actors, how much it made at box office and a little description by the movie poster whats the movie about, and it would be great to know if it has some sort of a rating out of 10.
I know you can go to wikipedia and search movies released by any year your inquire , but its just too ugly for me and not clean. Plus I'd like to see it in book form.

Re: Popular culture
VH1's I love the xx's TV series (features 70's 80's and 90's).

For movies, I mostly use IMDB. It has exactly what you asked for.

Re: Popular culture
How do I do the search/browse by year on IMDB
I did try to search for 2002 , the list that came up does not sound right. It had only 10 titles

Re: Popular culture
This is really nerdy, but if you can find a library that still has microfilm, it's fun to look at old newspapers, like from the year you were born or something. I once browsed all the movie listings from the year I was born.

There are some cinema reference books that are, rather than alphabetical, arranged like a timeline. History of cinema kind of things.
Re: Popular culture
Anapan thanks this is exactly what I was looking for. I wish I could find it in book format now.
@marurun
Do you know any of them? Like a title

I do not mind that either , butI am more interested in the info than the media type. Its ok if it was in PDF format. I have seen microfilm in movies only , I just realized its camera film. I thought it was some sort of a special devices that stores newspapers and you can do a search on it.

Re: Popular culture
I'll admit to regularly looking at microfiche when I visit my library. I always learn something new, and it also makes me feel like I'm a detective.J T wrote:This is really nerdy, but if you can find a library that still has microfilm, it's fun to look at old newspapers, like from the year you were born or something. Re: Popular culture
This doesn't have everything, but it is timeline-esque, and features tons of images of original posters and advertisements and copy. You'll probably have to hunt for it used, though.
