Us gamers
There's something about gaming that brings people close. Too close. It's hard to explain this but I think you'll soon get the drift.
"Us gamers should be more accepting of..."
"If we want gaming to be..."
"We should stop being lazy gamers"
"One of us, one of us"
This comic:

What's the deal with this? Since when is gaming a way of living and since when others speak for because they share the same hobby? Doesn't this annoy you? Do you have any better examples?
Or are you confused by this thread?

Re: Us gamers
All kinds of groups and fandoms speak in terms like that. It's not unique to gaming.
People like to label themselves and lump themselves in with others who have similar interests. I'm sure there are sociology studies that can give you some reasons why we do this.

It's human nature. Most people want to be like everyone else or believe that everyone else is like them. Some of us value our individuality though and value our own opinions, but we're the minority

Categorization is pretty basic human psychology. They've done lots of studies that show that people will find some way to split themselves up into smaller groups, no matter how homogenous you try to make the initial group.

You think its bad in gaming? Get into certain music genres. Hop into metal, or punk, or country. There are stereotypes, you must fit them and hold to them, and all the jokes and stupidity that entails. Including Cake jokes.

Yeah what Gunstar Green said.
You are really fixated on this sort of thing.
tbqh I don't find that "you must fit the stereotypes" thing to be true at all
You can learn about as much about a person from their interests as you can by knowing what their favorite color is.

I dunno, I can get a pretty good idea by what kind of music people listen too.

No you can't. Well alright maybe you can with high school kids because well they are young, have no life experience and are just trying to do what they can to fit in with whatever friend group they want to identify with. As people get older most of the time they expand what they listen to and get into more then just one genre of music, kind of like how most of us probably started out playing platformers (Mario) and now play all different types of games. You think you would be able to tell anything about me by my favorite game?
