9v DC is more like it, I use a 9v adapter with my model 1 Genesis, but the 500mA might be a little wimpy. I think the one I use is 850mA, while the official one is 1.2A (1200mA). The model 1 Genesis in particular is a little finicky about power adapters. You can have the right specs, boot up a game and have everything seem to work alright but with horrible audio. I've had that happen to me, found out that the power adapter might be the cause in a Google, swapped it out for a better one and the problem went away.
But anyways, you can at least give it a try. Under powering the console wont hurt anything, and it's producing DC as oppose to AC, so you're safe there too. Worse case is it wont work correctly or wont work at all.
For reference, the official model 1 adapter outputs 10v 1.2A.

Is there anything wrong that the dc adapter weighs about the same as a DS card?

You need to check the polarity too. That's important as well. As I said, look at the link in my sig which lists specs from official power bricks.

Ya, the polarity thing looks the same.

It's not a good sign if it weighs that little.someone3760 wrote:Is there anything wrong that the dc adapter weighs about the same as a DS card?
