If the NES is modded to do RGB it can also do Component:

Hey did Atari Flashback 2 have better video out than the original 2600, S-Video in mind?
And isn't someone working on a HDMI board for NES?
N64/NES/FC/SNES/SFC/GB (SGB)/GBC (Black)(SGB)/FDS/Satellaview/Genesis/Mega Drive/Master System & maybe N64DD/GBC/GBA.

Re: Best Video Connections
It's not that it's not available, per se, it's that it's not widely used. In Europe, most TVs support RGB out of the box, as do some consoles. In North America, we use component and VGA, which are both similar, but not directly compatible. Some North American TVs can accept RGB unmodded, but for the most part, we have to adapt it to VGA or Component. Those with deeper pockets might convert it to HDMI.retrozombieslayer wrote:Just to clarify, RGB is not available in North America, correct?
Re: Best Video Connections
Speaking of HDMI, there's also a HDMI adaptor for N64 in the works...

Will keep an eye on them... Let me know if one actually comes out.BitFaced wrote:Speaking of HDMI, there's also a HDMI adaptor for N64 in the works...

Regarding your earlier post, I've decided to not put them in the guide, as none of them offer any proof of concept or anything, it seems like the guy just threw those up there, maybe he plans to integrate an RGB to Component board or something. None of these consoles can be made to have Component directly from the console, anything else is conversion, and thus, cheating.
Re: Best Video Connections
For the Atari 2600 and 7800, Longhorn's S-Video and composite AV mod is better used. No trim pots are needed. He doesn't sell the boards anymore, but the PCB file is available for free (you can get them made up if you wish). The site also has the schematic and parts list, so you could build it on perf board if you wanted.
For the N64, I'm familiar with all the RGB guides out there. I've had the best results with this one, I feel it is better than the two linked in the first post.

Re: Best Video Connections
For the SNES mini RGB and S-Video mods, for God's Sake, get rid of that horrible GameSX guide links.
Unfortunately, the pictures are down in the best guide available for it S-Video. That same guy also posted a bunch of SNES mini mod info (including adding RGB) in this thread (in Spanish - use Google translate) but the pictures are down there as well. Hopefully he'll re-up them. Even translated from Spanish, they were excellent guides.
I did find the same version of that S-Video mod reposted in this thread, but it's poorly organized IMO. I had the schematic saved, so I'll just re-up it here.
For RGB, the Spanish guide just had you add a 75Ohm resistor to each line. IIRC, some sources had you add the 220uF cap and a 75Ohm resistor to each line.

Re: Best Video Connections
He hasn't open-sourced the 7800 mod, and doesn't sell it, so, leaving it off the guide. Added some of the guides you linked as extra/replacement depending on quality. Thanks for the contributions!Ziggy587 wrote:For the Atari 2600 and 7800, Longhorn's S-Video and composite AV mod is better used. No trim pots are needed. Re: Best Video Connections
Uhh... it says "NOW OPEN SOURCE" right at the top. Check this link, it has links to install guides (per console revision) schematics, parts lists, etc: http://longhornengineer.com/DIY/Atarivideomods/thelolotov wrote:He hasn't open-sourced the 7800 mod, and doesn't sell it, so, leaving it off the guide.
Also, the Longhorn mods add S-Video AND composite. I noticed you linked the Longhorn guide for the 2600 as "composite" but it actually does both.
No problem !thelolotov wrote:Added some of the guides you linked as extra/replacement depending on quality. Thanks for the contributions!
