I am running windows 8 and trying to use my 360 controller for Fallout 3. I have tried downloading the drivers and installing it and it will not show up as a device in my pc. I use joy.cpl and no controller. Simply I cannot get windows to recognize it.
I know there are probably a ton of ways to make it work and was hoping for suggestions. I know my way around computers very well just not familiar with windows 8. My knowledge has fell behind, but I am sure I can get you ISA video card to work LOL.
It is a wireless controller with an adapter to make it wired.

Re: 360 controller on PC issue
Does anything related to the controller show up in the Device Manager? If not, I'd guess you aren't getting the right drivers installed, or maybe your USB dongle isn't properly pairing with the controller, so Windows isn't seeing anything at all.

Re: 360 controller on PC issue
There is a 360 PC Driver that can be downloaded direct from Microsoft for Windows 7, might work on Win 8. I had to install it for a 3rd party Madcatz Gamestick.

Maybe not the answer you're looking for, but I think the dongle is less than $20 and mine works flawlessly.

Ah ha, now that makes sense. On my way to order it now, thanks guys. After I read that I then realized that the cable probably does not carry data and that it is for charging only. I mean why would Microsoft make it so easy for us to use our controllers? This way they can sell dongles and make more off of us LOL.noiseredux wrote:You need the wireless dongle right? You cant use the charging cable?
Seriously, thanks, it just never dawned on me.

Re: 360 controller on PC issue
Should be said that the wired controllers and sticks work on PC right out of the box, and a lot of the recent PC titles have even taken to showing Xbox buttons for tutorials if a controller is being used. Pretty easy to use.I mean why would Microsoft make it so easy for us to use our controllers? This way they can sell dongles and make more off of us LOL.
It would be nice if the wireless controller would pair with a PC without the extra investment, but i'd imagine when they were developed that PC users were their last concern. Not to mention any extra charge for the dongle would be passed onto a lot of consumers that would have absolutely no use for it at all.
Re: 360 controller on PC issue
Do you have a Win 7 or Win XP PC? You can verify if the 360 controller works with the driver. At least it will confirm if a hardware or Win 8 driver issue.wclem wrote:Tried the drive and a few versions of it, no luck.CRTGAMER wrote:There is a 360 PC Driver that can be downloaded direct from Microsoft for Windows 7, might work on Win 8.
