Local co-op like with split screens seems to be dying out.
Nintendo is still fond of multiplayer games though, like Mario.
A lot of people now think gaming is less social.

If such is the case, then that sucks.A lot of people now think gaming is less social.
I most def prefer local multiplay over online. As kid I mostly did my gaming at local arcades, so guess it makes sense for me to feel strongly towards local play even today.

Local multiplayer, definitely! Its just such a fun atmosphere when you have 4 friends all playing against each other in a game like Mario Party in the same room, theres nothing like it.
You could play the same game with the same friends online, but you wont have nearly as much fun. (And you can't hit someone over the internet when they do something that pisses you off

Which is more fun? Local, easily.
But which do I ever use nowadays? Online only.
It's unfortunate, but I don't have the kinds of friends that I can invite over to my house and play games with. All my friends that I was close enough to ever do that with from school have moved out of state to go to college. And my only current friends are just people that I'm casually nice to at work and I have no real interest in there lives outside of that environment. Not to mention that many of them probably don't play video games.
That's not including online friends, of which I'm close enough with some of them to do that if it were possible. But, of course, there's a reason I refer to them as online friends.

I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

I prefer local, but do play online weekly.
Re: Local Multiplayer/Co-op or Online?
Local but not really a fan of split screen. I like games where every player can play on the same screen at the same time with no split. Like fighters, beat em ups, etc. And I also like portable games with multiplayer so we can all play on our own screen. Like Monster Hunter.

Online definitely has it's benefits, and I wish Netplay for most emulators were more stable so I could play with my little brothers back home, but nothing beats being in the same room. Pac-Man Vs. with my Dad and siblings was one of the best experiences I've ever had while playing multiplayer. (Super Smash Bros. was also amazing with everybody playing/spectating)

Local. It's more personal. Plus, I hate all the corporate bullshit that has surrounded online gaming this past gen, and will probably continue next gen

Re: Local Multiplayer/Co-op or Online?
I almost never play online games now. I was very into them as a teenager but I can never find the drive to invest in it anymore. I also can't stand most of the communities of online games.
I'm also not a very competitive person by nature and I have more fun with co-op if the person is in the room with me.
