That's a good point. And looking at the data on Alexa I see mostly a variety of traffic coming from a variety of google homepages from around the world, ebay, and amazon. Only gamefaq's shows up in the top 10 as the last page visited before making their way here.
Always, and I mean ALWAYS, take Alexa data with a salt shaker of salt. It can be reliable for big box stores, but their credibility for say "Mom and Pop" sites isn't always accurate. Alexa is incredible, don't get me wrong, but as you already know server side stats is where the real data is.
In this case, I think Alexa is close to being close (if that makes sense). Their stats seem reasonable.
I cant talk about much with out Racket okaying it, but here goes:
8bit wrote:- How has the web traffic been the past 12 months? Are we trending up or down on the major search engines?
- Is the online shop and advertising still doing well and generating the revenue Racketboy needs to keep things going for the foreseeable future?
- How has the forum new member join rate and participation rate been lately in comparison to past years?
-Do we think we are seeing more quality member join and participate? Do we still see a good amount of "crosstalk" between the likes of other good sites like NintendoAge, System11.org, GameTZ, etc?
- What new articles, guides, and podcast topics can we look forward to in the near future?
- In a nutshell, what is the overall state of Racketboy?
- Good
- Decent, borderline good
- Yes
- Its a Secret to Everybody
- Good

I am glad to hear the overall state is good. Thanks FastBilly.

Well since Dave and I have become such podcast celebrities and we pull in, you know, a couple hundred thousand listeners a show, it is only natural that the site is performing well.

Sorry I cant go into detail. I hate to say things are hushhush, but well yall know how it is.
Truth be told, the info I know isnt that much more interesting than what I said. I mean Racket selling the site to Apple isnt exciting at all...
From a content side, everything that happens on the main page is a work of love contributed by a site member who answered a general call for help, got a direct request based on their unique skill set or knowledge, or made something and pitched it to Racket, Dave, or Fastbilly.
Since the site is 100% run by busy people with jobs and families to look after, members looking to pitch in and create quality content for the site are all encouraged.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
I found racketboy while googling info on retro video games I wanted a couple years back. The guides for anyone wanting to collect or play old games are top notch and very helpful. A vast amount of old skool gaming knowledge on the forums also.
That being said, I believe the amount of people that dig playing the old stuff is really just a small nitch of the vast gaming community. So unless maybe the site branched out and catered more towards "new" gamer's I can't see it getting any larger than it already is.
Just my .02c

I can assure you that we will not be branching out to cover more newer and newer titles. The world already has enough sites that do that. We will however continue to cover stuff that is new and retro related (like the Retron5 and Retrobits Hypermode Controllers), and will continue to find new things to plug on to the main site. We fulfill a need in the gaming community, to a degree, and we are happy to do so.
I just looked at the site statistics for a refresher. Overall, things are really staying quite steady. there is an ever-so-slight decline, but nothing to be concerned about.
We have pretty good Google rankings still, so that's nice.
Store sales are decent, but taken a drop with Dreamcast VGA units disappearing and me having to raise the price on the chips due to production ceasing on those.
I'm ok with it though. Hosting costs are minimal and we're all having fun, so all is well in the world.
