Resident Evil's influence was limited to a single genre. It's like Mario 64 or Devil May Cry in that regard.

RE2 is the best game in the entire series, IMO.

I can agree, (well it's a toss up between RE2 and the Gamecube remake of RE1) though it does remind me:

I'm sure you could probably make a strong argument for Resident Evil 4's impact on modern action games.

Never gonna care what people say, but RE4 is still one of my top favorite games too. Played the HD port a few months back and loved it again. Great atmosphere and everything. Fairly long but it does feel a bit rushed near the end when the story gets pushed more.

The only thing I can't argue against is that it truly did popularize QTE's.

Love the first three to death too though. Atmosphere wise I'll vote for RE2, but I loved the city in RE3, and the mansion in the original / REmake.

Resident Evil created most copy cats and sold the best, but the actual gameplay innovation was done by Alone in the Dark. Resident Evil wasn't even the first game to copy AitD. RE is a more polished version of AitD, but I'd say that Silent Hill was the next step in actual evolution of the genre. Though I have no mouth and I must scream offered Silent Hill-esque more intelligent and psychological horror 4 years before SH1, a year before the release of the original Resident Evil. Though Dark Seed was released in 1992.

The original Halo has held up incredibly well. Some things still feel old. Weapon variety and enemy variety leave something to be desired. Environment types are a bit low. Overall though, it still controls better than pretty well any console FPS out there and it's still a lot of fun. The voice acting even holds up well too.
Older. Not wiser.

Not gonna deny any of that. :)

I think it's safe to say that Resident Evil popularized the genre at least.

It is ok to laugh at this? I did smile...but i feel is wrong... i mean there's a point when you can joke about something tragic? A lot of cartoons do this with Titanic... but that is something totally diferent...
