Collection Presentation thought.

Post by TheGregzilla »

My games are all loose carts right now, and thats how I have always bought them, as I have no desire to try and buy CIB games..but I have come upon an issue and wanted some other opinions on it..

I plan to soon move my collection into Universal Game Cases, print the artwork and blah blah blah. Make it look all 'pretty' for display. But as I look online at some potential purchases, some of them come CIB. The debate here is do I-

A.) Keep them CIB (for value/bragging sake)
B.) Transfer to a UGC and resell/store the box (for uniformity sake)
C.) Just look for games that are loose so as to not have this dillema

Wanted to see what some of you guys do in this situation..

I do C. I prefer loose carts. My goal is to have my NES games on a shelf, but my SNES/SFC and Genesis/MD games in UGCs/real official boxes in Genesis case.

I have no desire to own most games CIB, but the games I do want that way, I have multiple copies of. Case in point, I have six copies of the original Zelda: the one from my childhood that is mostly complete, the one I play, Japanese release, Asia release, Wedding cart, and a copy that was given to me last night that is complete without the box (and filled out by hand maps).

My basic thinking is: cart games are okay loose, but for CD games I want the original stuff. I collect some cart games with the box (favorite games and such), but for the most part I actually prefer cart only for space reasons. CDs need to/should be kept in a case though, and I figure I may as well have them with their manual and art while I'm at it.

I am mostly the same way...This is how I keep my collections:

2600 - cart only

Arcadia 2001 - CIB

NES - cart only
SNES - cart only
N64 - cart only
NGC - CIB
WII - CIB
GB/GBC - cart & dustcover
GBA - cart only
NDS - CIB
3DS - CIB

XBOX - CIB

SMS - CIB; cart & case
GEN - CIB; cart & case
SAT - CIB
DC - CIB

PS1 - CIB
PS2 - CIB

Although I usually pass on them, I will rescue a CIB NES or SNES game every now and then. I feel bad about breaking them up, however; so, if I have one I will usually seel it, trade it, or give it away to another member.

NES and SNES carts I have them loose and prefer them as such, mostly because of space reasons and it's easier to stack them up on top of each other (I keep both types of carts on the same book shelf). If I do get them CIB, I uh.....still keep the carts loose, the manuals are in a stack of my other manuals, and the boxes are flattened and kept in a stack somewhere in my room.

N64 carts are cart only. I am now actually doing labels on the carts by printing labels on the cart, using special 8-bit font. Boxes and manuals are done the same as the others.

Gamecube games I prefer CIB.

Saturn games I prefer CIB. I have loose ones but I will probably sell them/trade them to get CIB versions.

Original Game Boy and Game Boy Color games I prefer cart only and I stack them on top of each other (although the GBC only clear carts you can't stack on top of each other, so I may use the clear GB game cases to put those in and stack them. A few months ago I said I probably wasn't gonna do the GB games in the folder like trading cards, but I will probably do that just for space and organization.

Game Boy advance games I want a least a manual with them. Eventually I'm going to put them in DS cases (with a GBA slot). In fact I have 5 of them in there right now. Unfortunately, from what I heard, Nintendo no longer sells replacement DS game cases with the GBA slot (the replacement cases now just contain the slot for the DS game, no additional GBA slot).

I have one Genesis game and it's cart only. I probably don't care if it's cart only or CIB (hardshell cases, yes, cardboard boxes, no), once I actually get a Genesis and get games for it.

Nintendo DS games CIB only.

If I were starting over, I would go cart only for my GEN games...I'm in too deep to turn back now, however!

Pick C. Less work and more money to spend on games instead of presentation.

I agree with BoneSnapDeez almost entirely. With the only exception being the e-Reader because honestly who collects for the e-Reader?!

Well I plan on casing everything anyways, unless I somehow get a ton of money and buy more than I have room for, but Id like to UGC all of my carts, But then I come across a CIB game and I feel bad about separating it lol, mainly because I know its worth more in the original box, but I feel like it will stand out too much if it doesnt match the rest of my UGC games.
