I've not seen it yet, but it looks good to me. I like Vera, she's been in several movies I like, Departed, Up in the Air, and Running Scared.

That's right Running Scared with Paul Walker is an entertaining movie.

The words "Based on true events" make me laugh every time. Who do they think they're fooling?

I've not seen any previews, just saw that it was showing locally and that it was well reviewed. The director did the first Saw once upon a time, so he has chops.

almost saw it today, but will probably see it this week. James Wan is so hit or miss though. I thought the first Saw was great (the only one he did), but Dead Silence was terrible. And then Insidious was ugh... it was such a good half of a movie, and such a terrible 2nd half of a movie. But the extended trailer for Conjuring looks so good. I kind of have to see it now.

I recently became a friend (like a real friend who sits on my couch) who is the anti-Retrodude when it comes to movies. He gets red in the face angry about movies that I love.

Guy loves documentaries, the National Geographic channel, and that's about it. He said that Silver Linings Playbook was "emotionally forced and distracting".

Yet this guy has SPACE JAM on dvd, so I can't think he's a jerk.

He hated THE CONJURING. "Not scary. Hated it."

James Wan also did Insidious (2010)...
prfsnl_gmr wrote:Insidious (2010) - The first half was good - if run-of-the-mill - haunted house fare (i.e., a gray filter, good sound editing, the occasional jump scare, a building sense of dread and mystery). The back half, however, was just a mess...like a cross between a Rob Zombie music video and an episode of Nickelodeon's "Are You Afraid of the Dark?". Once the main characters began confronting the spirits, it became apparent that the movie was going to be nothing more than a second-rate Poltergeist, and my wife and I spent the back half of the movie rolling our eyes. The "twist" at the end was obvious to anyone that has ever seen a horror movie before (or heard a ghost story...or seen any movie, really), and the movie - taking a cue from "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" - tried to create a threatening atmosphere by simply placing some dry ice on the floor. That said, the first half was good; so, I cannot say that the movie is entirely without merit. I would not recommend it, however.

Most of the reviews for The Conjuring (2013) that I have read were written by people that really liked Insidious; so, I am cautiously optimistic at best...If you do see it, DSH, please be sure to let us know what you think.

His house smells of freon and contact highs.
