Nooooooooo!

Use a faq before that.

Just realized I have a Genesis Game Genie. Never used it, and I don't remember ever purchasing it.

Disagree entirely. GO is great. I say that as somebody that loved both Source and 1.6.
I have all of the CS games, so I can play any of them.

I'm at GlaDOS right now. Died 3 times. Know what to do now, but can't seem to do it quick enough. Not a big fan of time limits.

Thinking cap time kiddies.

I just beat the Last of Us a few hours ago, and I'm wondering.

Would a Game like the Last of Us have been possible, if Shenmue had not existed?

I think due to it's unfinished nature we understate the impact Shenmue has had on gaming and I feel Games like The Last of Us, Assassin's Creed, GTA III onward owe alot to Shenmue and how it combined Gameplay with Story telling.

Shenmue? Nah, I'd say Metal Gear Solid set up the modern video game story template.

That's a good point I couldn't really think of anything other than Shenmue that set up Game story.

But I think maybe not so much the Last of Us which DEFIANTLY would not exist if not for Metal Gear Solid. But a Game like Assassin's Creed and even GTA 3 On ward, I think they owe more to Shenmue than they do Metal Gear Solid. Last of Us is a bit of a Hybrid of the narrative/Gameplay from both MGS and Shenmue.

I'm not including Heavy Rain in this discussion because, I still have no idea what in the Blue hell I was playing with the Hour I had of it.

Anyways I do think alot of games owe alot to Shenmue and that the Influence of Shenmue on Modern games is understated as it's an Unfinished Symphony. We also really don't know how that story was going to Pan out. It could have become this awesome Modern WuXia tale. Or it could have gotten all kinds of Evangelion Fucked up. We're never going to know because A) Our Expectations are too high and it's been too long and B) The Games it's influenced have surpassed it so 3 would have to drastically change and I doubt Sega or Yu Suzuki want to take another huge risk like that.

Both of you are right, in my opinion. I think there are four games that define modern game design, whatever I mean by that terminology:

Half-Life
Metal Gear Solid
Shenmue
Deus Ex

They all came one right after the other too.

Ocarina of Time? I feel like nearly every action/adventure game I've played in the 3D era borrows a lot from it, especially mechanically.
