Saturn model 2 loading/freezing

Post by Kirbyepsilon »

I have a model 2 sega saturn that when I play a game the loading times get longer the longer I play, until the game eventually freezes while loading. I normally take 20-30 min of play before it freezes up. Has anyone experienced this before? Is this something I can remedy this myself or should I start looking for a replacement system?

First, try cleaning.

Clean the Saturn's laser lens or "eye". Get a cotton swab, Q-Tip, cotton ball, microfiber towel, etc. Q-Tips work best. Wet the Q-Tip with rubbing alcohol, and gently swab the lens. Don't press hard, just lightly swab it. While it's still wet, I like to flip the Q-Tip around and swab it with the dry end. The alcohol will evaporate quickly, but I like to swab it while it's still wet to remove any dirt, grime or dust that might still be on it. If it's especially dirty, you might wanna repeat, but once is usually good enough.

After that, make sure your discs are clean and not heavily scratched. I like to use microfiber towels to clean my discs. Wipe the disc from the center out, not in circles around the disc. If there's fingerprints on it that attracted dust and whatnot, you can use a little bit of diluted alcohol to help remove it.

If the discs are scratched, that may cause or at least contribute to the problem.

So, do this first and then see what happens.
